it's their desire to prove themselves to their fellow men. to not just prove themselves as a man, but to prove they are better than other men. so really, a good mixture of vanity and insecurity

Sexual conquests? I've lived for thousands of years and seen many human conquests to conquer the world fail and crumble down. I've experienced more than any man could ever dream of. I've seen the civilization of men rise up out of the dirt and continue to grow.
Those people, they have nothing noteworthy about their entire lives, let alone anything to brag about. I'd give them no mind to any of their vocal escapades as it is less menial as a drop of water in all the seas.
