I actually dunno why it caused it, everything I read about it didn't seem harmful at all (not that I'd really benefit from it anyway, was just curious :p)

logging into ffxiv requires more effort than most of the quests. i feel like you should get a random piece of decent gear and a bunch of xp just for successfully getting into the game. you just log on and it's like,
