Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

AND I DID NOT DIE!

I think they might have thought I was a lost because I didn't know how to put my elbow/knee/wrist pads on. The ladies loved my shark socks & BMC.

I learned to stop and the girls were pretty friendly although I felt like they were talking about me as soon as I walked away. You know, when you leave a group while one conversation is going, come back like .2 seconds later and it's completely different, but something that could easily relate to you? One time was about my experience on skates (none, but I wasn't falling so SURELY I had some inline or ice skating practice) and the other time was coming back after a lap and they were talking about weight, and the difference between small and large. They said something like, in derby you are a toothpick or thick? Something like that...I was just thinking like, I am here with six girls, none are under 5'6 and they are all talking about how they are all built with more muscle since joining but also at their healthiest. The coach, who is maybe 5'3? Said she went from starting at 115 and is now at 130.

It is a lot to learn. There are at least four different ways to stop. It was pretty nice that they use Sunday as a fresh meat/back to basic learning night. You can be fast and know all the good moves but sometimes it is great to refresh your memory on the little things. Some of the girls who are actually able to do bouts were falling on their bootehs. One girl wiped the fck out right at the start and had to restart with different wheels. Another girls lack of balance is a source of confidence for me, as a noob.

One downside? Using communal gear is skeevy. They wash it maybe once a month if that. I asked if there was Lysol to spray it down and she said no. As much as I want to cover my knees, elbows and wrists with bacteria, I will let someone else enjoy ringworm and yeast infections.
