It's not that I hate subs, sometimes they are better, but in the animes that I have watched, generally they're about even... either that or the English dub just blows the JP dub out of the water(hi DBZ). In cases where they're about samesies, I prefer English, because I prefer to not be constantly staring at the bottom of the screen.

The majority of dubs are awful and don't do the show justice.

The more you watch subs the less you have to keep your eyes at the bottom of the screen.

So yeah Iron Man 3 was pretty awesome :3

I'm very picky about the voice of the characters, and even the best dubs have issues with some of the characters in the show. If the voice doesn't fit the character it will ruin the show for me, sub or dub.

Simply not true, unless you're re watching the anime. I have no trouble keeping up with the dialogue or even reading it quickly, but you still miss scene impact on the first go around. Plus, unless you actually, truly understand Japanese, you lose some of what is being conveyed.

I do like watching something dubbed and then watching its subbed counterpart. It's fun to see how they deal with what they need to convey. I feel that subs often lose out on character personality by using formal diction in informal cases.

Game Japanese isn't very different from Anime Japanese so it's basically the same lol

Just because it's now in English doesn't mean it's conveyed correctly now.

If you listen to English while having subs on they completely remove the Japanese culture references and replace it with something else. You're actually missing out on more of what is trying to be conveyed by listening to a dub.

A dub might change the character's attitude completely because of the voice actor they use. If it's a professional dub, which few are, then they might have some good voice actors available but even professionals mess it up, just not as much.

Honorifics can also change how you look at the relationships between characters

I don't have a lot of experience with english dubs, but from the few I've heard they were pretty bad. It's just that probably usa don't use much real actors for them as movies and tv series don't require them, whereas in here, like in Spain and other places, everything needs to be dubbed so it's usually good voices. Of course not always, but most of the times italian dubs are ok.

Conveyed to and for the Japanese in those cases, but there are many times where other nationalities just aren't going to understand Japanese culture, and this results in loss of impact. Very few animes need to have deep rooted ties to Japan to convey the story, and at times trying to stick with that gets in the way of the show.

It's cheaper to properly sub an anime than it is to dub one. Therefore you're going to find higher quality subs more often than not, but most really good animes have official dubs which are amazing. Don't forget that the dub voice actors have to infer/be told how their character is motivated. They have more barriers to go through than a Seiyuu. Have you watched any English adult cartoons with Japanese voice acting? I want to sometime, but it hadn't crossed my mind till now. I bet they mess up too.

Swedish dubs are surprisingly good, at least when it comes to animated movies (like Disney and Pixar).
