im lazy but i have dd eva and chr gear
I'm only 34 BST but from my experience and from knowing some good BST friends and seeing them in action, I'd imagine having a DD set would be almost mandatory. Not every BST is going to have the luxury of having a camp to themselves, and therefore will be unable to pet swap every time to defeat their prey.
In hopes of becoming a great BST I definately intend on having: A Charm Set for easier prey (+Charm over +CHR) A Charm Set for harder prey (+CHR all the way) A Melee (acc, atk, haste) Set A WS set (Rampage, Mistral Axe, Decimation, Primal Rend) A Reward Set (AF & relic take care of this) And whatever +INT slots I can find for Tame. Any other experienced beastmasters that care to comment are more than welcome. Hypnotizd said: Xdudemanx said: BST>ALL enough said ^^ Yeah except if you ever want to get in a real merit party. I remember getting 7-9k per hour on bombs (in Ifrit's Cauldrin) + 2-3 coffers in that same hour. Got my map and lots of gil that way too. And we don't have to worry about our pets attacking us either.... Go Go Sac Carby! Anyway, BST = All, not better, not worse, just equal....it all depends on the player who makes it good or not. Ninja edit: my second comment on making my life easier as a THF just goes to show they have good utility beyond just DDing. Their pet Sic moves can effectively debuff and even temporarily tank (for shadow recasting moments) and even pull if need be. You are quite right, neither do I understand how many times I shouted at Partys Wingate by dd and you offer and you say no, sometimes I an told that I can that my pet will consume part of the party exp ( This is a lie) and on other occasions by saying that you're not a good DD, for example when I took DD Gear bonus +49 str is only lvl 66 and with a very simple. That was confusing but adorable. Aramina said: Hypnotizd said: [quote=Aramina]SE definitely needs to consider better cap-75 jug selection. quote] You are either completely missing my point or simply ignoring it. First, there are not many jugs that cap at 75 WITHOUT taking into account Beast Affinity merits. Second, of the ones other than Courier Carrie... MOST of them are ridiculously expensive (Allie runs about 4k per jug). MOST of them are usually in very short supply (Good luck getting a stack of Allie jugs). So, I'll qualify my statement and say... "there need to be more reasonably usable jug pets that cap at 75" Funguar Familiar is an extremely potent DD, and while it used to cap at 55, at least SE raised the cap to 65, meaning that with full BA merits, you can jack it up to 75. In addition to that, it can be bought from and NPC for roughly 1k per jug, and in whatever supply as your wallet allows. Now, if you happen to be on a server where you can just swing through the AH and grab a stack of Homunculus, or Allie, or Lars for like 10k, then bless your BST heart. But my server isn't that way, and I'd wager that very few of them are. I don't think he's missing the point.. I think you are. 1. Don't like paying for craftables? A. Don't use them. B. Skill cooking and make them yourself. 2. Why do you need all these new, and reasonable.. lol ... jugs when the ones that exist now are just fine? 3. If gil is an issue, and I'm guessing it must be if you're complaining about 4k a jug, just thug your bst. CC and such. Those jugs are just fine. 4. Complaining about prices makes you look like a real ankle biter. I use CC. Overall, price, quality of jug, level of pet... it's the best overall bang, for your buck. 5. If you dont like wasting gil on ninja tools, jugs, arrows, bolts, and so on... jobs like NIN, BST*not as bad*,COR, and RNG are not for you. BST costs peanuts to maintain compared to RNG, or NIN.... or COR. 4k a jug? Pff.. how about 13k for a stack of arrows? BST have it pretty good when it comes to consumeables. Nevar forget that! Ultimately, if you're not making gil from exping bst, you're doing it wrong. You should also consider that all jobs are a gil sink to some degree. Some just more than others. I'm not hating on anyone here, but I will admit that people whining about prices on stuff kinda "grind my gears" heh.. yeah. Where can you duo/trio/party and make close to what a regular meripo can make? (I did say LIKE 5k/hr you know as in shitty exp/hr compared, I didn't say we made exactly 5k/hr...) Enternius said: You kinda answered your own thought. That's exactly WHY they don't get parties. BSTs are lazy by nature and rarely think to pick up DD gear as well as solo gear. It seems pretty harsh to say something so generally toward every member of a job class. Most BST work a lot harder for their EXP than other DD, so I don't know if "lazy" is fair at all. However, if they plan to DD in a party, they should bring reasonable DD gear and not worry about CHR unless they are at the rare camp where they can locally charm DC-EM pets to fight with them. I have pretty good DD gear for my BST, but I also have craploads of gear for my two main jobs, BRD and WHM. When I roll out for endgame stuff on either of them, I'm usually loaded down to at least 62/70. Because of this, if I know that I'm only going to be soloing, I don't bother with most of it. I'll keep most of the DD gear for my BST stashed on a mule, along with various jugs that I wouldn't use. I'll bring a few things with me like Patroclus' Helm, Hauby, Potent Belt and Chivalrous Chain, but otherwise it's purely +Charm and +CHR gear. I never hesitate to dump TP to swap for Apollo's Staff if dying is the alternative. On the few occasions where I got to bring BST out to DD in a party with friends, I loaded out fully, and was able to out-do everyone but an E-Bow Ranger. The biggest reason that BST don't get parties is because there are too many BST haters. It's the same reason that SMN get asked to parties to main heal all the time. Too many people don't seem to understand how great the job can perform when it's allowed to function as intended, so they rarely if ever get a chance to show anyone. Instead, they end up in some armpit of Vana'diel trying to make Bombs and Goblins explode. Honestly, I loved partying on BST, but one of the best things about it was getting away from people, so I really only partied on it with people I knew, and not often at that. Just meant the overwhelming majority of BSTs are too lazy to carry extra gear around. Thus, they make a name for their job as a whole, and drag the actually well-geared, good DD ones down. It's the same with most jobs that have trouble with party invites. (Lolpup anyone?)
@ Radaghast
I see that you have BST leveled, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. My issue with the jug selection isn't only with the price, it's the availability. Unless you make them yourself or have someone make them for you, you just won't get them much. My comment was based on the idea that the should be a better selection of jugs available at higher levels that give BST more flexibility without going broke. How often do you go to EXP parties and see people using Dragon Steak, Red Curry, Rabbit Pie or anything of the like? I'm guessing not very often. In fact, it's rare that I see it unless I round up some Monks and go to KRT. Then they are usually so thrilled to finally get a chance to smash skeletons that it's Red Curry all the way around. That means a lot more pressure on me to not miss a beat, but hey, it's nice for the Monks to have their fun once in a while. Wishing for BST to get the jug pet equivalent of Meat Mithkabob or Coeurl Subs is not "whining" as much as it is wishing that we had something similar to what other jobs have available. We should be able to have a good DD option at 75 that is not like using Red Curry. I kinda have this idea that if anyone shouldn't be worried about going broke, it should be BST. We are super farmers. Not to mention all the nice seals!
Aramina, Yes I understand what you're saying. What I'm saying is that it's a bit silly to want a system to conform to any sort of inkling by a user... just to make their unorthodox way of accomplishing a goal, easier. It’s like saying you wish whm had more vit, that way they can take more dmg. Some things are supposed to present challenges… otherwise why the *** even play the game? Why you're in a merit pt as bst, without other bst’s, I'll never know. The only jobs I'll merit with on bst... are other bsts. Granted, I've never done a bones pt with bst, it could be fun. :P The only time I've done a bones pt was when I was whm, with 5x mnk. That was fun. I could talk about how they need to make arrows that are cheaper to produce, but are better than kabura just because I go through the gil equivalent of a United States auto bail out check in one pt, but I don’t. I don't because I have alternatives if I choose not to use them. One of the things I hate about FFXI is how much it has changed in the last few years, by "adding" too much stuff. There is a limit. The game has almost become too easy now. As for obtaining them... I'll grant you that. Unless you know a high level chef, they can be tough to obtain. I am lucky in the sense that I know two 100 chef's. Even still, 9/10 times my choice is CC. The reason I exp'd bst in the first place was to avoid pt's. If you want to merit-merit, exp war, or sam, or brd, hell even rng I get decent pts. Sterling said: I kinda have this idea that if anyone shouldn't be worried about going broke, it should be BST. We are super farmers. Not to mention all the nice seals! flippin right. bst has no excuse for not making money. when i XPed on bst, i would get usually 10 or more beastseals per run. not to mention the drops of whatever i was killing (which could be crap or good). Hmmm this just gave me an idea. Unfortunately my BST is only in the mid 30s so I can't really do it, but would any experienced BSTs be interested in making a "Money Making guide to EXPing". In essence locations to exp but in zones with prey that yield good gil drops along the way while still maintaining decent solo exp earnings in both departments.
If I didn't do my homework and something like that is already made could someone link me? Thank you~ BST's going broke? You flippin' what?
Don't level COR, whatever you do... Ethereal said: Hmmm this just gave me an idea. Thank you~ i've plundered through all the guides and haven't found one that shows where money can be made at the same time. however, in one of the guides it states that at level 75, you can kill the goobbues in Boyhada Tree and they drop some very nice items. check it >>> http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Elder_Goobbue Yeah I noticed that too, and I certainly plan on making those my prey when I'm up high enough. But I would love to see some fellow BSTs put their heads together to come up with something similar to this but made for earning gil/semi-decent exp.
That guide actually works out nicely if you are interrested on making money. Just choose the one that you believe will make you rich depending on what is on demand and BHAM money. Making a new guide with money in mind will ALWAYS be changing. For me BST was more of a fun adventure, and made me some money on the side. That's it...
BST Blogs rocks! BST>all (thank you)

Every job class is like that these days when you're leveling up. This is in part due to level sync. People will avoid skilling up, buy new gear, etc., just because they will eventually get an invite from someone no matter what. I'm in a linkshell with argueably one of the best BST on any server, and he pumps out some hella dmg with his Guttler and is amazing at his job. His other jobs are geared well also. So it is far from what job you invite to do things, its the players themselves and how much time they have put in to that job. |
