I think they are, not that Ive played them.

Scary movies will keep me up at night for months..when I was a kid I slept in my parents room for 3weeks after seeing HocusPocus

Is that the one with the three witches? I got scared after that too :/
Bette Midler's face would scare anybody.

ClockTower 3 and Fatal Frame series still give the shivers (I NEVER play them at night... a couple of the Resident Evil series as well).

I think Bioshock (perhaps not a pure horror) had some of the most creative horrors of the gaming world so far. Who can forget approaching the shadow of the woman and the pram upon starting the game only for her to turn around and hack your face off... ooh and the first encounter with a Houdini splicer... and best of all in Cohens art gallery the army of splicers diving from the ceiling and the staircase to the sound of the nutcracker >.>:

Resident Evil had its moments of zombie filled horror also, especially in Part where Nemesis could come at you from anywhere.

Really I'd say it depends on the mood your in, but a movie you get into it for 2 or so hours; on the other hand a game has a longer pace so the time devoted into a game and the reaction from the horror in a game is more dramatic than a movie I suppose.

I remember I think in 3 when you're walking in this hallway around the corner and there is this open window with wooden boards and the zombies start screaming and pull their hands in, man that ***was devastating lol.
thats part 2 in the police station. Small corridor with two boarded windows.

I feel you, the first time I played RE3, I couldn't keep the lights off but I forced myself to. My god that was mind numbing.

It never bothered me that he would pop up out of nowhere.. It was that he could follow you that freaked me out. Everytime I ran and went through a door, I had to pause and wait till I was ready to continue

playing as Tofu in part 2 was hilarious. I remember after learning the routes and where everything was, I blasted through the game within the two hour mark and got that green beret dude and Tofu.

I always find it difficult walking through each door in these games. Then having to see if something is gonna attack or not.

Doom 3 scared the living hell outa me turn off all the lights crank up headphones to surround sound and get a gaming controller ready and it's like fking hell every time a crawler pops out or a flamer. *shudders*

The Suffering (one was scary two was just meh didn't get to play it all the way before I got my ps2 jacked) once you got immersed don't try walking outside in the dark especially not when there's metal that might contact the ground I swear I damn near ***myself.

Lol the first horror (if you can call it that) that I played as Dino Crisis, and I was bricking myself playing. The first velociraptor that attacked me, I threw the controller away and ran out of the room lol

No mention of Limbo? it may be a puzzle game but its pretty scary. Watched a LP of it, really good but holy crap some of the puzzles if you don't solve them quick you die...a painful gruesome death, but thankfully you wont get sent back all the way to the start. I wonder if anyone got the No death achievement?

Limbo really made me feel weird... like I didn't want to play because I felt bad playing it. Good game but creepy as hell.

I felt the same playing Braid too.
