More like you get on, play for what seems like 5 hours, look at the clock to discover only 30 minutes has passed.

what if you didn't have that old idea in the first place.
that's what I was hinting at :/

If you can convince the whole world of something essentially you can change the past :P

Memory alteration is time travel 101.
Even if you convince someone of something they still have the memory of the what they thought previously.

You can change textbooks, you can change written history, you can change anything regarding recorded history, but you still haven't changed what really happened.
why do you think that?

in regards to the textbook stuff.
that type of change isn't a direct change.
it's more of an over-time change.
meaning that over time people will not know what is really true.
that concept is especially true in this day and age when it comes to past events IMO(aka 911/war on iraq...etc)

He's getting at the notion of Plato-style epistemology and the concept of universal Truth (beyond perception.) Sort of like when Plato espoused the idea of men who live their entire lives chained in a cave and can only see each others' shadows cast on a cave wall, and whose entire concept of reality is based on shadows of actual objects and what they perceive as reality are shadows.

http://www.historyguide.org/intellect/allegory.html

The idea being that what we know to be reality and what the chained men see as reality are two different things, but (supposedly) the reality we know is the correct one and theirs is based on faulty perception. Thus (again supposedly) the universal Truth of the situation supersedes the subjective reality caused by human perception of events.

Of course New Age 420-lifestyle thought will easily counter the notion that we can possibly know anything or everything, but Plato at least makes a good effort in suggesting universal Truth exists.

/end tangent :p
I actually wasn't referring to Plato-style epistemology and the concept of universal Truth, I was referring to what I bolded.

Quote:

I don't know if you guys are thinking I'm thinking in terms of my own timeline..I didn't think I illustrated it that way.
What I was referring to mainly was an adjustment in perception over time to change public image.
IE "brainwashing", kind of like what they did for the hitler youth and whatnot.
essentially it really isn't changing history because it isn't on a mass scale, but it was on a pretty mass scale in terms of the whole country.
of course that doesn't mean that everyone was convinced of it.
but it doesn't remove the fact otherwise in the moment.

It's more of a psychological concept though. When we consult the 4th dimension we can see what is really real to our point on 5th.

I established that it was more a social thing than a literal "time-traveling/past changing event" when I first spoke on it :/
I still am firm on the moving forward in time being the only accepted version of time travel currently but that's only in regards to our own perceptions...but past that it gets a bit too gray for much to be said for certain. Just because it's so far removed from how we perceive reality that it's not the easiest concept to word out unless you have further education on the matter and I do not sadly.

This is like metaphysics. If you cut your finger off, are you still considered you? At what point are you not yourself anymore? It's a mind-***, but interesting to talk about. Especially for druggies lol.
funny enough i've had this type of conversation with druggies recently.
and i do agree it is fun.
multiverse theory has always intrigued me.
and the *** doors of perceptions and all that jazzarazzamataz.

Multiverse is what I believe. That if you travel to the past or future you don't change your time line but in some way creat a new one. Wish I'd live long enough to see it who know the gov will never tell us of a time machine I think lol

Er, ok then. ^^ Yes, you can change people's minds and their perceptions of history. /agreed LOL So maybe not Plato, then, but Abe Lincoln...

he could have tagged on "as of yet" at the end of it :P
but that wouldn't have incited as much emotion. :D
but generally that statement is pretty true.
looking at how overflowing the supply of information is nowadays it seems that it might be a bit easier to fool people than it was years ago...but then again maybe not.
I guess we have our foolish ideas for every decade.

Take a trip out of futurama. Travel to the end of time, watch the universe collapse.. Then watch it all repeat untill you've reached the appropriate time in the past.

miss it by several days, travel all the way round again.

Late reply, but I was doing Dominion OPs lol.

I don't take it personal if that's what you mean, it's just I find it funny you always disregard anything someone says into a negative light like they're out to personally prove you wrong or the other way around?

Either that or you hate the concept of not being the coolest kid on the block without a mind of your own so you take other people's comments out of context and try to indulge them as your own.

Kinda annoying that type of mentality is all I'm saying.
ofc you're reply will be something along the lines of why do you think that about me?

Please, you're not that great of a physiologist lol.
I'd hope not.
/posts definition of physiologist
:D
I dunno what exactly you are referring to with the negative light stuff.
Maybe I'm just a negative person...hell if I know.
I'm not entirely sure what you are referring to in this(bolded)
but I would be curious to see an example since I'm kinda bored.
since i am bored I'll just look through this thread for example as I like to look for such things if one must pose faults.
Megatron or w/e mentions the butterfly effect which conflicted with what I believe, so I spoke as to why I didn't like it.
Maybe I don't word things out in the nicest way possible or just to be out there as you do.
I think you might just take me too seriously, or not seriously enough.
If you don't agree with what I say, just explain to me as to why you don't rather than just bitching about how evil I am and how much I try to be contrarian at any given moment.
Situational is situational.

Forward time travel is already possible. Just orbit a black hole for a bit at tremendous velocities and general relativity will put you into the future.

Backwards time travel probably isn't likely. Unless you believe in a universe-wide conspiracy theory, someone from the future would have already come back and told us.
