You guys have weird schools. :o In my old high school, prom was for the whole school, from freshman to senior. We had 4 annual dances: Sadie Hawkins (girls ask guys), Homecoming (guys ask girls), Morp (backwards prom-- girls ask guys and you don't dress up), and Prom (guys ask girls.)
I think in my entire high school years I went to 4 dances total. One prom with my girlfriends (girls night out, woot!), and one each of Morp, Homecoming, and Prom, all with my then-boyfriend (now husband.) Dances are ok, but there's lots of other things I'd rather do on a date.

We have homecoming and Turnabout(girls ask guys) then prom for jrs and snrs. never went to homecoming or turnaabout freshman or sophmore year :( i dont have alot of friends irl lol
Any class CAN go to Prom, but honestly, it's not that special if you go all 4 years. =/

We had dances in middle school too. But there was a jr. prom and a sr. prom in high school specifically for the class and their dates. Also harvest night and homecoming were for anyone. I had gone to the middle school dances, and homecoming twice and harvest night three times. When I came hove from EVERY ONE of them crying, I realized school dances weren't for me. I went to the movies with my friend the night of sr. prom instead and had a blast. ^^
