Hes obviously looking to copy and paste what we say without having to cite it!

I assume this was aimed at my post...

What good is all the nonsense being spouted in this forum thread if he's actually writing a paper?

I'm guessing he's not seriously working on a project if these responses are his source material.

Would it kill him to read, understand, and cite some studies? No matter what grade level, a project on video games and violence requires actual research.

Ah, in my main post I said I'd like to know the thoughts of the gaming community on this subject, not that I was using it was a source lol. My bad though, guess I wasn't clear enough.

I was pleasantly surprised to find one that had a couple links for me :) that was nice of him/her~

personally i don't believe that video games cause violence

they can probably get you pumped up for a short amount of time after playing them but in the long term i dont believe that they cause violence

though there are cases with people who like kill their parents cause their videogames were taken away, but i think that only happens when a mentally unstable person plays video games

I really believe that certain games DO have some influence on people, especially young developing kids. If they have no influence at all then why are there ratings on games so that others don't play them? I admit, when I was younger I played games like resident evil when I was like 10~12 years old. Those games back in those day were a lot more tame compared to what we have now though. I wouldn't doubt games having some influence on younger people.

There's ratings because people who have never played a video game in their life *** and moan. It's probably just a mental trick to make parents "feel good" about video games, and makes the industry look "responsible". Everything is based off of image.

Would you give a R rated game to a little 5 year old? You think a man shooting someone and blood spurting everywhere has no hold on something that age?

still it's some type of influence, it does not mean that a violent game can't influence

on extremely young children yea i would hate to see what happens to their poor little minds.

the unmentioned group in question though was teens and above =o since if a parent lets their children play those types of games, its the parents fault >.>

R rated games are 17 and up, 13~16 is still considered teen. During this developmental process, I really feel these games still influence them in some way. I know a lot of idiot kids out there, they will try some ***they saw on MW2 with the rest of the meatheads.

Would most likely scare them senseless rather than compel them to go out and commit a crime.

FFXI has induced violence in me before...back when I used to Ballista certain players would cause me to chuck my controller across the room at times xD But I don't think that's what you're really asking lol.

As far as killing Splicers in Bioshock then wanting to go out and beat on random meth heads with a wrench, nope, never felt the urge.

I agree with others that said it's more complex than just playing a violent game. Somebody would have to already have a few screws loose to take it to the real world.

To blame video games for causing violence, is the same as blaming the air you breath for causing violence. I could easily say "if it wasn't for the air around you keeping you alive, you wouldn't have been able to kill those people!"
Radical example I know, but do you see where it's going?

Any argument that says "x" causes violence is a load of bull.
i.e: guns cause violence, drugs cause violence, games cause violence, air causes violence~ etc.

At the end of the day, the responsibility is on the INDIVIDUAL, not on the objects around them. I could have a gun in my back pocket, smoke some weed, drink a beer, breathe some air, all while playing some Halo and I GUARANTEE you I won't go out "commit some violence."

All those studies done where X-Amount of people were tested and their results are also ***. Because again, if you tested One-million people who were just like me, what were your results be? 0 people committed violence.

This argument is almost as stupid as those girls who tried to sue McDonalds for making them fat...

It all comes down to people taking responsibility for their own actions. Sure there are those with mental illnesses, or younger kids who want to "replicate" what they see in the video games (which is why there is an ESRB rating on each video game). But if you are a grown adult 17+ and you allow yourself to be "influenced" by a video game to commit violence, you have issues.

The question you should be asking here is not "Do video games cause violence?"

The real question you should ask is "Do you have the mental capacity to allow yourself to NOT be "influenced" by the video games you play?"

What you expect from people who play those types of games. Large majority (68%) of them are meatheads.

I am so sick of people blaming games for violent actions in real life. Yes games will frustrate you, make you angry, be competitive. That is what games are supposed to do. They are meant to be a challenge. whether it be real life sports, board games, video games etc. But to blame violent crimes on any game is ridiculous.
One example could be and there have a few cases of violent crimes like these:
http://kotaku.com/5622543/detectives-explore-video-game-fantasy-as-motive-for-brutal-teen-murder
He went home after the crime and bragged about it on WOW. And "played to forget what he did". Where is there in any video game rape I ask you?
or this one as well:
http://kotaku.com/5676373/teen-confessed-murder-in-world-of-warcraft
Yes both these point to WOW but where is there rape, murder, and mutilation in a mmo? there are others like Columbine with references to doom or teens shooting at cars claiming they seen it in GTA4. but these people were mental disturbed to begin with. (they just happen to play video games) They all look for a scapegoat an easy target is video games because it is somewhat unregulated but also it is a great card to pull for the defending attorney or a hook to get more people to read in a news paper.
It certainly can be violent "your virtual self is committing the violent act" but an well grounded human can tell the difference between fantasy and reality... Also a game or real life. If ANYONE!!!! is to blame it is the parents not monitoring the child's actions and what they are playing! We need to step up and stop blaming other things and other people for our problems. I work in a video game store if people think that GTA4 is such a horrible influence on their children why do I see parents picking up this game for their 5 year old on a daily basis?
We in America have more scrutiny on video games and blame them more than anything else. But On T.V. kids can watch C.S.I where rape, violence, etc. happen more and were okay with that on T.V. It is backwards. Sorry for the wall of text but. Games do not make people violent: Parents that do no supervise their children, (children ,teens, or adults that are mental disturbed to begin with) cause this not games it is our own fault.
