Quote: Or maybe they will start to release actual decent games. But i think SE is way passed that now. FFXIII marked the end of SE producing decent games.(I never played 9/10 so idk how good they were)
The signs were there before that. One of the traits of old squaresoft games was never going back to the exact same setting twice and always making brand new systems in every game. In some respects, they become the victim of their own success. I cringed when dirge of cerberus happened. I cringed when X-2 made a charlies angels knock off as the 2nd game set in the world of spira. I cringed when 12 used the world from tactics. These were all signs: the creative steam is running out, the management wants "a safe game". Usually this sort of thing happens to a genre. Scrolling shooter (gradius, R-type) become popular >>> every publish spams generic shooters! Doom and quake happen, and do well >>> every publisher wants to make 1.. Here we have a series undergoing this loss of quality.

I was actually picked for beta and I summited problems which they never fixed so I quit playing the game and come to find out they never fixed them in the retail version release which is sad. If I ran a company and the developers didnt fix the problems it had 1 of 2 things were going to happen. 1s would be holding the release date til it got fix or I would find some1 who could fix it and fire the people as needed. Final Fanasty should not be about money it should be about a awesome experince that carries on from the last one made and that didnt happen.

Lol gamespot.
If I took reviewers advice on my game choices I'd have missed out on a lot of games.
XIV is good, and has potential.

You're loling at gamespot but offered no rebuttal to the litany of issues they had with the game. Reviewers words are just opinions, I honestly think if someone is interested in a game they'll get it regardless of a reviewers say, but to act like XIV is good despite all of it's problems is a heroic feat of delusion. XIV has potential to be good, even great, but it's not. Not yet.

Honestly FFXIV will not get a big North American/ Euro audience with this kind of bad press. Its really sad....

Ouch.
Typical English response to a game where they don't get their instant gratification.
MMO release = clusterfuck
If you can't stand to wait a few months for them to iron out all the *** (and subsequently the ***players) then obviously your more suited to playing some simple button masher to please your simple brained actions.

i love the game i cant put it down. but i am a huge fanboy. only things i really hate in the game is why cant you do your camera with the arrows. ijkl buttons are so gay. and i forget im in ffxiv and tried to type words but map pops up. i dont like that i have to hit space bar to start writing. lag is bad sometimes. i craft next to zones somethings for no lag. plus alot of the mobs all look the same and lvl 1-100 mobs all mixed up together. but once people leave main areas and find city for higher lvls lag will drop down. :)
i just cant wait for it to get back on the train tracks. i love this game and wont stop playing it anytime yet. back i have so many high lvl jobs on ffxi but i havent even logged into it since i got my ffxiv

Actually no. If you read the thread there are lots of Japanese people not happy with the game. The highest rated comment was about all of the games flaws. Even the JP can see how bad the game sucks. Though i agree it has potential, this isnt 2003 anymore. And people have expectations of games. I'm not paying a sub fee to play a Beta

i completely agree. while i was reading this, it was if the author was just complaining about that the game was way to *** hard for him. i mean give me a break, you're in an instanced area. talk to some *** NPC and find out what you're supposed to do. you can't expect te game to give you instructions like, "press the W key for 5 seconds, then release and press the S key to reach said NPC, talk and blah blah blah." i dunno, he seemed whiney to me. However, he did cover the issues that the rest of us have been bringing up since the beginning of time.
all in all, i'd say that this review is a poor review of the actual game, and more of what your typical ***for brains WoW player would think.
as a side note, please do not think i'm bashing ALL WoW players. just most of them (as they are mostly complete dumbasses)

Whether you like the game or not, you have to agree that the launch was done way too early. A game with this many problems should of been held off for another 6 months at the very least to get the basic bugs fixed. Releasing it as it was just hurt them a lot more than it would ever help them. People hoping to get the PS3 (and possibly the XBox) version are going to be very hesitant now. The game is getting nothing but bad publicity at this point which is going to reflect on people's decisions later down the road. I won't be surprised when this game fumbles and the company is named Square Enix Capcom.

But does it show where the npc is on the map? It's a lot of things like this that makes the reviewers say it is a "step backward". Today's standards aren't the same as 8 years ago. a step backwards sure, to when everything wasn't just handed to you, making you actually have to search. i dunno, this seems like the golden rule of RPGs. find ***.
By Enternius 2010-10-07 10:14:07
Not to completely negate your argument, Rinn, but it actually does show exactly where NPCs are on the map.

At the get go of the game, there shouldn't be a need to search around in hopes of going to the right area.
any MMO these days NEEDS a tutorial at the start, even if it's a tarutaru dancing and /saying "Talk to me!" to give you the basics.
it's not 2003 anymore where games can be halfassed and players will continue to play, if SE really wishes to see their latest installment get off the ground, they need to scramble and fix their crap soon. There's many other MMOs out there that aren't as frustrating as this one, and much more fun after 2 hours.
Square made their bed in the grave they dug themselves, they need to lay in it and deal with the ramifications of people not paying for a beta.
the fact alone open beta players couldn't report anything to the dev team showed they dont want the majority feedback, they're just wanting our money.
that said, XIV has alot of potential, it just is buried in so much crap that it doesn't look good.

Unfortunalty. Not many companies care about their fans anymore. I cant even name one that cares about the fans, its all about the money.

But I also think people need to stop bitching and quitting before they even discover any content or get to the upper levels.

because final fantasy began at 7 that's actually 6, but yea, what about all the others?! I played the origional FF for NES when it was first released and I don't think I ever played the FF2 for SNES. I do own all of the FF games that were rereleased for PS1 but haven't gotten around to playing them. Basically I didn't score the earlier ones because its been too long since I've played or haven't played.

No company has really cared about their fans to the extent we expect. Video games are just like any other business. They're out to make money. Smart companies will and do take feedback from their customers at times but this isn't because they care about the customer. It's just the smartest and easiest way of making money. Please the customer and they'll buy your product.
That's not to say that SE doesn't care or isn't even trying. Something like this was most likely a decision made by the suits in the upper management of the company. They wanted the game released at the beginning of the quarter in hopes of a strong start over the holidays. The developers most likely presented the game as it was and said it wasn't ready but the upper management wanted it released anyways and have the bugs/problems fixed along the way. Launch the game as an empty vessel and fix the cracks and fill it in as you go along.
Post any links to press reviews, etc here.
So far it's getting 1.5 out of 5 stars on JP Amazon.com, after a few hundred reviews, and is already 25% off for both versions.
