I took Jaerik's and Draylo's advice and didn't buy it.
Well good for you bro...on the other hand I herd the reviews prior to buying the game and I'm glad I bought it, its no way how some are making it out to be. I like it so far and yes it needs work Its supposed to be fixed by December.
Unmei, i see you are definetly loving the game and so i ask you this:
Name 10 great aspects of FFXIV as an MMORPG,..... other then the graphics. (thats not asking much)
i'll wait ;)
1)Battle system: having various regular attacks to form combos vs just engage auto attack.
2)No AH in this game so prices can't become fixed.
3)Battle Leve system: It gives you SP/XP, good Gear, and guild marks to buy new attacks and WS.
4)Rank:(SP)System /Physical(XP) system: creating a merit system from the start allowing you to customize your character stats Str MND ect..
5)The advanced crafting element that allowing you to create +3 weapons and gear
6)The Class/Sub class system allowing you to use any ability and traits learned from other jobs you lved. This also allows you to totally customize your character.
7)The no zone aspect
8)The Teleport system
9)Behest system 14's version of campaign battle.
10)The gear repair element.
11)Being able to change jobs on the fly.
I can keep going and of course the graphics which are simply amazing....
I don't get why everyone defends the problems by saying "XI was no better."
Really?
Seriously?
That's your defense? After five years and tens of millions of dollars in development costs on a next gen MMO, the best you can do is "Well, it's no worse than a game in production 10 years ago for probably 1/5th the price?"
Lower Jeuno lag was absolutely atrocious and spoke to a crappy-*** rendering engine and shoddy networking code. Talking to an auction house with bugged encryption using a incremental tcp/ip chunking mechanism that takes 20 seconds to display a full list, and a crappy back-end that can only handle seven items at a time without crashing.
Really? That's the bar? You're going to measure XIV against that? And your line is going to be "Well, it isn't much worse?"

I don't know, but it always comes up. 11 was fun, if 14 does as well I'll be extremely happy. I wasn't aware of FFXI's auction houses piss poor encryption.. I'm sure that.. really has a lot of weight on how one measures the fun factor of the game.. heh
Go play wow Jaerik.. lol Really man, you'll feel better.
Jadi did you miss the part where I've said multiple times about playing the open Beta? I'm guessing you did. I also said that my friend, his name is Adam in case you think I'm making things up, says that the UI is still the same (he played the Beta as well and bought the game on it's official, but way too early, release) and that the game is laggier than it was in the Beta.
Remove the stick from your *** please.
Only Lag the game really has that is annoying now is the menu lag which sucks but it doesn't make the game unplayable..
Everyone accuses me of being a hater, but let's look at the situation:
I've given these guys $15/month, across international lines, unbroken, for nearly 8 years. I helped make two third party utilities and an entire site to try and make the game better by working around their crappy technology. I published dat mods and new texture art. I admin'd a very busy XI forum for 4 years. I fanatically defended XI from every other MMO out there.
I pimped XIV to everyone I knew, even at work. We even set up another site and another business to spin off a XIV version of our XI site. I dropped $4,300 on a ridiculously over-powered computer to play this game, and convinced friends to do the same, who probably couldn't afford it. We all rushed out to buy the CE on release day.
And what do we get?
"Well, it's only slightly worse than crap from ten years ago."
Seriously, it makes me want to hit things, and I'm not an angry person by nature.

I Hear ya man not saying your wrong at all but its SE after all and they have a BS track record from how they did 11. To be honest I don't expect them to change just because its a different title its the same company in the end. SE games get better over time after they are released based on feed back it seems to me.

So wait are you mad because you told your co-workers it would be awesome then.. looked bad? Yeah.. I can see how that could make someone pissed off. Sorry man.. it was overhyped. It had huge expectations and fell short.
Jaerik, some of the things you and your group have done are great. I also payed straight for 8 years, I also worked alot in the FFXI Wine project creating patches for people back in the day.. and overall of my FFXI times.. I had a lot of GOOD times. You don't get anything from a game but fun and maybe a few friends in the end. 14 is what it is, right now I think if you like the game the best thing to do is to help others in it learn it. If you hate the game, go on to SE's suggestion box and let it rip.. tell them why and go do something else.
Aside from that there isn't much else to do.. SE will put the work behind this to fix some of the problems they can fix and if it's enough by the ps2 release it may be very successful, if not, it will probably still have a long life to it but just not be as hyped and successful as people trumped it as being.. who can say.
You know why Jaerik you shouldn't be mad?
because at the end of the day you will benefit from both ends, if FFXIV succeeds you get to play a cool game and you wont look as bad at the end
if it doesn't SE will be shat on, reputation more dead than ever, broke as ***and look like dumbasses. ANNNNNNNDDDDD... you get to laugh at their misery.

hope... people like me play in hopes that the game will get better which im sure it will. and the people who has the time to waste on the game at this stage will have a big advantage when (If) the game gets better
by the time PS3 release im sure it will be much better, or else game will probably die

Totally, I'm trying to level up waiting for those new hNM's to come out. I'm gonna be all over them. :) Like Aspid back in the day.
i lol'd hard for this XD
but strange, i played the BETA and it was laggy then i played the game and it was better and faster than BETA, i used to get kicked from the BETA every 30min and opening the map or other things was slow as ***, not saying the game become ok but it's better than BETA, so unless you experiance something by youself otherwise don't based your comments about someone else

I don't think jaerik wanted the game to be bad so he could laugh at their misery though. I think it's more of a disappointment issue.

I was actually saving up money to upgrade my computer too...
Funny thing is I still want to get a PC ready for XIV in hopes it'll be decent by Spring or so, but for now I have my eyes set on a PC around 1,100ish dollars I'm going to use for college.

Get a DELL Studio XPS for about 1,049.99 CPU only works fine with FF14 1.5TB HD 8GM RAM ATI 5770 Vid card.
Well the only good thing that came from FF14 it gave me the opportunity to Buy an new PC and Build up another one; and all paid by MSFT capital gain :)
So thanks MSFT and S.E. for doing business with you!
Now, everyone let's cheer up Citibank "C" lets go for the big WIN!

Pretty much this
Spend around 3k ish for each gaming pc. Bought 3x for me and my bro's to play FFXIV on launch.
I tried to enjoy the game. I really did but every aspect of it is broken. Cant enjoy the crafting or the battle system and honestly the battle system is utter bs.
The Exp/SP system is *** horrible. Screws over mages horribly.
the freiking tank job is a massive joke.
I couldn't bare it anymore and stop my subscription and my brothers did as well. They need to fix it and in the mean time they will not get any more money from me.
Trust me, SE is well aware of the problems by now.. they don't need you out there bitching anymore. Be patient ad keep watch because it looks like they are betting their entire company on FFXIV now. I believe they can do good things.. I've seen it before.
The last time SE (known as Square at the time) put all of it's eggs in one basket was 1987. The gaming industry has definitely changed since then.
That's true but when it changed in 1987, it was because Square changed it. ;)

That's not what I think people are trying to say, what they are trying to say by comparing it to XI's release is that we have seen SE's previous development cycle at work and we have seen the evolution of their last mmo game, and that was a very very good track record of improvements.
