Nor did I imply you were naive for liking the game. That doesn't make any sense. Why would I say that?

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Mine is no more important than yours.

My post was more to point out the arrogance of saying "My opinion is the only one that matters," which is what a lot of you guys are saying. "Reviews don't matter." "Legions of angry fans don't matter." "I'm having fun, so *&$ you all."

The naivete comes from thinking you can dismiss the opinions of other people outright. You can't. You need those people's subscriptions for the game to survive.

The game is total ***

most MMO'S are total ***when their 1st born

wont stop me buying ffxiv tho because the whole point of an mmo's is for it to get better as it ages.
expecting games that have 1000's of hour's of game play to be fully ripe at launch is a tall order, very tall!
i mean come on lol,it's no exactly call of duty that can be knocked up as fast as a modern house.

p.s im gonna play on ps3 so no rush for me

But then again there are plenty of people who could care less about what the reviews say about a game.
There are plenty of games with great ratings that are utter trash (WoW, any halo, gears of war, any rockband, guitar hero or any other "press button when you see a color on the screen" music game)
Mind you, these are just opinions, but that's all those ratings are too.
People really should start to think for themselves and form their own opinions through firsthand experience instead of being a MSM sheep.
If you only playing highly rated games, you are sadly missing out on some great games.
Personally I'd rather those types stay away anyway.

the opening cutscene makes it seem like the game is going to allow you to jump and manuever in such a way that you can avoid attacks by simply forcing your character to jump over it.

Then you get your opening fight, and it's crap! you sit there basically stationary, spamming 1.

and i'm sorry, but newsflash SE: it's 2010, copy paste landscapes dont' make a game, and i'm sorry. EVERY competitor out there has a jump and swim function, a world that can truely be explored vertically and horizontally, and yet you peg us into Corridors in Gridania, and the same damn landscape, for an entire region? not even Florida is the same look all throughout the natural areas of it.

your world is too small right now, the zones are the size of Kons. Highlands, with a town on either side of Ul'dah. you could have atleast made zone to fill in through the home town zones, and spiced up the areas. Uldah would actually benefit from having nothing but sand for a few dozen yalms, and maybe an oasis.

They dropped the ball on all aspects this time around. the "We learned from XI" is lip service, they learned nothing, they just learned how to make an even worse MMO.

I wasn't going to buy this game originally and to be honest I wish I hadn't bothered...

The few good points it has are the character creation, thats great because you have so much choice. The no zoning between towns and the outside world, thats pretty neat. And finally the amount of exp you get off mobs is nice, it does make leveling a lot quicker.

Now for the bad points.

I personally found the game to not be user friendly at all. I couldn't even get out of the dock area without asking passers by for help because I didn't realise to interact with things you have to go into the menu instead of just pressing A like in XI.
The lag. Im glad it's not just me experiencing tremendous amounts of lag in towns and also out and about. Mobs take forever to load as do NPC's.
Trying to join guilds or craft in general, I found it stupidly hard to even do any of that. I couldn't work out how to join or buy the tools.
Having to type / or spacebar to open the chat box. What is all that about? Why not just type and it opens it like in XI?
The fact that mages don't hit the mobs. Seriously, why? Magic is fine, laggy as hell but I want to hit things as well. Whats the point in taking an aggressive stance with a weapon that your not actually going to hit anything with? Seems a bit pointless.

I'm sure there is a lot more wrong with the game but I really only played a handful of time because the above problems just put me off so much. I know its a brand new MMO, and I started XI when it had already been around for 4yrs so it had more depth. But there are definitely things that need sorting out.

Needless to say I will be cancelling my ID on it before they charge me for a month of playing when I most certainly will not be using it. I know a few other people who have already done that as well. Maybe I'll pick it up again next year sometime once content and bugs have been ironed out.

That's exactly how it works in XI if you set to compact setting, which is when you control your character with WASD. Depending on the kind of games you play, it's a lot easier.

Honestly, ive never hit fatigue this whole time, but apparenrly your exp numbers when you bring up the menu are in red, not that ive seen it myself.

I don't mind for no jump, after all it's just something to do when you are bored... jump around, at least that's what I did anyways.

No Auto-attack.... it doesn't bother me much, at the first levels when I was a gladiator I was all like eh? lame, but then it picks up around level 17 there's a lot more to do combat wise, probably way more busy than when I played paladin on FFXI at that same level, FFXI activity wise combat din't pick up till around 60 is when it starts to become a little more fast paced and active, I have only played Gladiator so idk about the rest of the classes.

No sort? yeah deffinetly a huge problem if you are a crafter, sometimes I would find myself making duplicate items because I thought I was missing certain ingredient, then time later when clearing up my invertory I would finally find them, but it does say on the announcements it will work btw november or december not sure.

Bugs wise... I think the game breaking one was the targeting, and currently the one that mobs will run back if you are like behind a small rock, or over them, looks like bad pathing.

Content wise.. it looks pretty much like FFXI at the beginning to me, Story wise, I suppose there could be more but it's a start who knows, but what I'm a little dissapointed is how little activity there is on the guilds, I hit 20 on both armorsmith and gladiator and all there was to do was a little quest.
Behest is fun, but a bit unrewarding, Faction leves take long time to build up.

Incomplete game? yes totally, I can't believe how they backtracked into so much good feartures, what's the point of the tabs and the chat when one is battle and the other is general and it shows both battle and general in both tabs? maybe I'm missing something here, no delivery box yet, no sort, search is mediocre (another thing that they said it would be out around november/december), I'm not sure why they would think they should not release chocobos because it's not on par with teleporting using animas? to begin with animas are not infinite, so many feartures missing, I have yet to understand the group search system, did they think people would never need all this? and ugh, seriously? the doors again? are you kidding me! other than aesthetics, doors are useless and are a huge annoyance.

I remember back in the 90s when games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, etc got pretty average ratings from the magazine industry. While provided it was a good argument and base for setting up purchases from people, some of the points indicated as a "negative" often seemed to call into question the intelligence of gamers. Such as the plot lines being "too convoluted", when I see none of those problems when I follow them. Today, we revere these games in a cult-like status for what they were. Hell, Xenogears wasn't even finished. And they still put out one hell of a game for what they had. It's funny though. I still play those two games today because they were fun, and there are some perfect rated games I'm horribly bored of.

my point isn't really the intelligence of the people reading review's(as if they should believe reviews or try the game 1st).

my point is even if some shallow people will only buy a game based on reviews it's still a loss to SE's bank ballance and a loss to the ffxiv community regardless :(

i personaly read reviews but can still buy a game if its rated low as i also like to see for my self :)

usually reviews aren't wrong... from my experience, if it says it sucks it really does suck. FFXIV isn't the exception and doesn't seem much like an opinion considering how incomplete it is and all the bugs. hey it sucks, do you like it? cool, It still sucks.

For one I will still keep my FF11 subscription alive in case FF14 decides to Explode.

Secondly, S.E. can fix 1/2 of the bad reviews by adding a delivery box and an Auction House. Until then, I dissaprove of FF14 and sooner or later when I get bored and cancel my account.

The silver lining is.... theres an AH underway.
See video review below:

Score 4.0 text review:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/finalfantasy14/review.html

P.s. i just spend 40 minutes looking for a CONJURER weapon lvl 10+ without luck. And last night spend 20,000 gil on a Bone Hora just to walk ouside the market wards and found out some1 else selling same item for 10,000. This crap would not happen if there was an AUCTION HOUSE. The whole city of Ul'dah needless to say the Market Wards look like a Giant Rolanberry Mart!

An "organic" economy, featuring primarily player-to-player trades and no magical central authority, has been the pipe dream of MMO lead designers for the past 15 years.

There is no "auction house" in real life. There is no central building or authority through which all goods are exchanged. So a lot of designers think they can do better, and come up with an organic redesign that works more like real life. Physical proximity, word of mouth, vendor visibility, regional price considerations, etc. You can't really blame them -- they're paid to be visionaries.

They always fail. They either cave and add a central authority, or they broker the player to player transactions in such a way, through search and/or guide icons, that it basically becomes a central authority anyway. (Which sounds like their plan here.) Because as it turns out, real life economies aren't fun, and people are more concerned with fun than realism.

I guess I'm amazed that XIV's designers don't appear to have learned from any of the design mistakes of similar MMOs for the past 15 years.

The feature in both EN and JP is described simply as a way to sort items. "Auto" is not explicitly mentioned. It would be nice, but not promised.

As for fatigue being a design decision aimed at the Chinese market, that comes from more conspiratorially-minded Japanese players. I'm not sure I buy it. In their defense however, a lot of this game's development choices (all the way down to Horsebirds) do seem aimed more at a Chinese market than a Japanese one.

I think if they would just let us put up a few retainers in other wards (with a shared bag?) and a method of searching they might have their organic economy... for all the good that will do.. Why would players want such a thing anyhow if it was harder to use?

I think they are making the same mistake they made with the FFXI economy tho because there is way too much gil generated by quests, that will cause inflation. Mark my words it's coming..

I think what they got from ffxi is that "oh hey, people seem to be disregarding the auction house and selling their items outside of town on their bazaars! SOOO they must enjoy that more than the ah."

Flashforward to ffxiv and they've made all sales a rolanberry bazaar and taxed them...and the tax is exactly why people weren't using ah in some cases! The tax is yet another stupid addition to SE's myriad mistakes.

This is just something that they should've experimented with more beforehand. I can't imagine anyone in the beta liking this system over others, but then, I understand they were rushing and this was probably low on a long list of things to worry about.

Again, where are the fruits of all this research into what players prefer in MMOs that they allegedly were doing to make this game?

In beta quests gave way more gear and rewards than they do now.. also people knew they would be reset so the need or want for obtaining items wasn't as great.
