Can anyone please assist? I just finished installing FFXIV and registered it to my SE account. Whenever I click the PLAY button however, I always get this:

And of course, it closes, and I can't get past it at all. Does anyone know what may cause this, if a certain part of my computer ain't compatible even though I managed to install it, and how may I go around this to get it working?

if you are using an ATI Radeon video card then you need to update your Catalyst Control Center to at least version 10.8.

if you already have that then you need to update your DirectX version to the lastest one.

Thanks for the fast reply, but I'm not truly good with that side of computers, so I'm unsure how I check to see what video card I have

that wasn't what I was getting at lol...just wanted to direct you to where you could find out what video card you had.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager > (dropdown menu) on display adapters... that should specify your video card.

Seems DirectX 11 is the latest, and says in the system information part that I already have that, so sounds like the video card whatever.. I'm so useless at these things x.x

I just figured that I should mention that most of the people that are playing this game now literally went out and bought / made a new computer just to play this game...

I made a $2,000 computer and use ati radeon 5970

...these types of games do not like integrated video cards which means that you either:

a. need to buy a new laptop with a dedicated video card
b. need to buy a new desktop with a dedicated video card

one more question just out of curiosity...

Did you run the ffxiv benchmark program before purchasing the game?
...and did you play the open beta before purchasing the game?

all I can suggest is to go to the intel website and download new drivers for your video card type.

Then go to the directX website and download the latest version of that...and yes there are patches for DirectX 11. Download the program, run it, it will check your version files and update them for you.

ya sorry, but it is odd that it actually played the benchmark since most people had that same problem starting with the benchmark as well as the beta...which is almost the same as the retail version.
