I still have a PC for my desktop machines, but I think Apple makes superior portable computing devices. (Although Android is quickly catching up.)

Someone asked where I went to school. I went to University of California, San Diego, Warren college, after I found I couldn't take Stanford up on their offer letter because we wuz' too po' to afford it.

I totally got accepted into UCSD, Warren college 4 years ago, and couldn't go because of the same reason you didn't go to Stanford. XD

I probably won't get Halo: Reach. I'm not much of an FPS guy and I have a lingering sore spot over that entire franchise.

Halo came about as part of the Microsoft takeover of Bungie, shortly after I stopped doing stuff there. I didn't like what Microsoft did to the lovably quirky Bungie culture, and I also didn't like their strong-arm exclusivity deal for the XBox. Bungie had always been a cross-platform company and it went against a lot of their principles. I also don't care for the incredibly nasty, juvenile, disgusting gamer culture that's sprung up around the franchise on XBox Live.

Of course, I could just be sore because I left Bungie too soon to get obscenely rich off its royalties.

Yeah Extraordinary Desserts is badass. I went on a field trip there when I went to culinary school in San Diego. It's worth checking out.

Also, check out Ocean Beach. Go to Hodad's for burgers and get bacon on it. Their bacon is a super thick patty of chopped thick bacon, held together with cheese haha. It was on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.

Oh and you have to go to one of the 5000 taco shops. I recommend a carne asada burrito or a california burrito.

Janyerik, would you say that you lean towards any political ideology?

Futurama was biggest here in the US when I was back in Japan for awhile, so I kind of missed the whole thing.

Leela's pretty awesome though.

I consider myself an independent, because I'm extremely socially liberal but also very fiscally conservative. Both parties have gone so extreme in doubling-down on conservatism or liberalism for both, there's no room for me left in either party. (And the third parties have just completely batshit crazy.)

Personally, I just want political ideologies to come back to some sense of logic or internal consistency. I don't want everyone to agree with me, but I want to be able to follow their argument further than two sentences before they contradict themselves.

Since politics has become a form of entertainment, people treat it like arguments over rival sports teams. Anything to make your side win, so you can feel better, and rational discourse be damned.

Any other questions for me before I get some sleep?

Not entirely sure how to answer.

I tend to be a brooder, but only insofar as I like to sit and think about something from every angle before attacking it. (Which is definitely not emo.) I rarely get emotionally involved in such things, so it's easy for me to push away and compartmentalize until I have a rational plan for fixing it. Until then, I don't let it bother me.

I actually find that I come up with my best and most creative solutions to problems when I think about them in small bursts over a long period of time. If you saw me at work, you'd think I was the worst employee ever because 90% of the time, I appear to be dicking around doing nothing.

But it's the solutions to hard problems that I come up with during that time, plus the 10% of time actually pounding something out in a high-pressure sprint towards those solutions, that has the most value.

Ooh, that's a good question. Do they notice us when we just post, or not notice us until we misbehave? (Not saying we should misbehave or anything, I kinda like the idea of blending into the background a bit.)

I recognize all the folks that post most often, but my opinion is often scattered and unreliable because I don't have time to read every thread. It's part of why I'm so deliberate and careful in moderation: I don't trust my own opinion, so I want to build objective paper trails for everything.

I'm actually better with "faces" than names, so I tend to identify people by avatar instead. If you change your avatar around a lot I might have more trouble remembering you, unless there's some reason I've had to remember your name in the past. (Like investigating a bunch of users complaining about you.)
