Funny you should ask that; I'm actually quite... picky. This will come off as arrogant, but I'd rather read my Bible "unfiltered" than to have someone "preach it to me." It gives me the responsibility of taking my own faith into my own hands. That being said, I do listen to several pastors, but I only favor the ones who adhere strictly to biblical context. John MacArthur is knowledgeable and knows his Bible well, but he comes off as too elitest, and tends to sound condescending towards his audience, and even moreso towards any non-believer. John Piper is more to my liking: He's approachable and sincere, and focuses more simply--and yet, somehow, more profoundly--on God's qualities as written in the Bible and how we should respond.

In terms of philosophers, I've just recently discovered that I've unconsciously adopted the philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard, though I do disagree with him on a few small points. But it did strike me as a little eerie to find that we had come to the same conclusions separately.

Oo~ Interesting! I read a lot of MacArthur when I was younger. He’s taken some really important stances (e.g. Lordship of Christ as a necessary part of salvation).

If you like Piper, I’d recommend you look into Francis Chan (if you haven’t already). He’s a bit more radical--in a good way--than Piper, but in terms of solid theology and approachable teaching/writing style, he's among the best out there.

I’ve never read any Kierkegaard =/ I've only studied him as an abstract in the classroom. I'll have to look into him some more. Thanks for the response! =D
