Bahamut.Jetackuu said: what's your old ***then? These days I'm a platform programmer, meaning I don't work on individual titles but on the underlying technology that those titles are built on. I'm supporting 14 or so games at the moment. If you did work on it, I think I love you. Phoenix.Darki said: guys.. GUYS i just realized jaerik owns a whip. I do, however, own own this guy, a JP government-registered katana made by a smith designated as a "living cultural treasure." I probably take better care of it than I do my car. It took three months and multiple references just to get the necessary licensing approvals to get it out of the country. Asura.Calatilla said: Do the Grammar Nazi`s piss you off? That being said, a lot of people try to worm their way out of an argument they can't win by attacking the other person's grammar. I consider that a pretty huge cop-out. If you did work on it, I think I love you. You can't even say whether you worked on games or not? Harsh. New question: What kind of music do all you admins/mods enjoy? Who are your favourite bands? Edit: Not harsh of you to not say so, harsh of Disney for not allowing you to. my turn. Jaerik, what year and type of computer did you start to learn programming on? I took computer engineering in college 90-92 on the old 386/486 systems back in the tcp/ip days. oh i hated it. curious your first experience.

As such, it's kinda hard to say when I "started programming," because I don't think I saw it as a momentous occasion and thus wasn't really paying much attention. My first tinkering around was in C++ and Java back in the mid to late 90's, so that would be, if I remember right, around the time of the first Pentiums. But I did have a Commodore 64 back when I was a wee tyke, and pirated my first 300 or so games at age 7 before realizing, much later, what I had actually done. You still have yours? I still even have my tape drive (where you could use audio tapes to record programs) Leviathan.Chaosx said: You still have yours? Alexander.Varistor said: my turn. Do you prefer living in Japan or the US?
Lakshmi.Jaerik said: Leviathan.Chaosx said: You still have yours? did you ever access the internet in 90-92? there was no windows, no icon to click on the screen and you are connected. you use to have to type in the prompt TCP/IP yadda yadda etc. to get onto ftp sites and stuff. that kind of thing. have to forgive me if i am a little inaccurate about that cause it has been 18-20 years since i used to have to do that, maybe others can add to what i mean by that. I know it is all still there, just done thru windows and icons for you. back then you had to do it all maunally. That is what i meant. My first attempt at programming was in 6th grade on an Apple IIe computer. good times.

I know full well of the nonsense before gui, in fact I quite enjoy command line at times, but only for the lulz, not for practical application. I know people who do things today in command line, but mostly for unix/linux server operations. Even though you quit playing 2 years ago (if your page is correct), you still see the progression of the game today. what are your thoughts on things like abyssea and hot topics of late. Job changes, level cap increases. just curious what you think.

I'm sorry that you don't realize this. |
