There is no largest prime number. Assume there is, and call it the 'k'th prime: then let p = p_1 * p_2 * p_3 * ... * p_k + 1 where p_i is the ith prime number, from least to greatest. Since none of those primes divide 1, they can't divide p. So p is only divisible by itself and 1, and p must be prime. But that's a contradiction, because p is greater than p_k. So there can't be a largest prime number. I proved a negative again! With something invisible, that I can't even see or touch or find in the physical world! Seriously, guys, these tired sound-bytes about not being able to prove negatives, etc., are just silly. We do it all the time.
