RNG is indeed cancer. I tried DOTA2 and the game being full of it made me wtf pretty hard.

Need to test out my new runepage idea tomorrow...
So, there's a local group I am a part of, and they are throwing an online LoL 5v5 tourney that I am thinking about making a team for. The only requirement is one member to be from CO and in the group (that would be me) The prizes are yet to be determined.... but it could be something fun.

Riven is just BOSS. You can't go wrong with her top lane.
Jayce is fun as hell. He's got a dunk, knockback, steroid, and decent AOE!
Shen.....he's just a flippin' ninja, enough said.

Shen is often banned and it's relatively hard to make him work with random people. You would learn a lot though by playing him, on a personnal level, as using his ult and split pushing are important things to learn (though you may know a lot about this already).
I would advise getting them all for one reason: learning. Even if you don't like any of the 3, you'll still have learned their pros/cons from the other side, their cooldowns will be more familiar when you play against them (tracking Riven's stun, Shen's shield, Jayce's gate).
The sale is good but I don't own most of the champions :( (And the ones I own, I already have their skin).

Playing jayce well is on a whole another level apart from playing a champ like riven. Mainly because of his versatility and utility he offers to your team comp.
He has incredible poke and harass and offers movement speed for team initiation and get aways as well as a knockback and on target gap closer that snares if I remember correctly.
he just plays really differently.
riven is going to be your basic top lane bruiser. Hits hard. Stays alive and offers some hard cc and a short ranged ultimate which does a good amount of damage. if you like top lane bruisers then she's a good champ to learn.
Shen is your flippin ninja tank. Can top lane, can jungle and even support. Excellent split pusher, tank, duelist and has decent jungling. Too bad he's usually banned or first picked. Main reason why he's banned as you probably know is cuz of the global ultimate. However, playing shen just like every other tank is knowing when to initiate fights and when it's a good time to leave. Imo get him if you want to add him to your collection and play him. He's really fun to play, especially with people you can communicate with to exploit his abilities to the fullest

I like low elo ranked. I'm first pick 4/5 times so far everyone bans the tanks, I grab maokai and win.

any pointers for a new player? I seem to do pretty well with Ashe against bots but haven't tried playing other players yet. If the thread wasn't so big i'd go through and look for tips lol

Also wtfnuggets at that sale omg... Pantheon, Lee Sin, and Sona... totally want all three of those. QQ
Thanks for the tips everyone for what my next champion will be. It's on my schedule to get more of a grip with Pantheon top & jungle, Malphite top, and Lee Sin top while I save up the IP. I decided I'll pass on Shen for now, I'll get either Jayce or Riven. Riven would be far easier to learn, but Jayce seems like an overall stronger pick. He seems like the type that would take me ages to get used to though. But I'll see regardless. Thanks :D
