Let's correct this statement. You don't "NEED" a Ridill, you really, really "WANT" one. You "NEED" air to breathe. You "NEED" food to live. You don't "NEED" a piece of code that is attached to your account and gives you a weapon that phenomonally increases your damage per second. In all honesty, if you moved to my server, I would be sure to place you on the blacklist as soon as I could and proceed to inform every HNM LS that you have difficulties with discerning the difference between real life and the game. Seriously, if you don't have the time to join an "end-game LS", then why go for end-game gear? I'm sure there are people that are in a linkshell that have spent a lot of time and dedication to build it up and coordinate fighting Fafnir on a regular basis for the whole purpose of the hope of getting a Ridill for themselves or friends of theirs. And now, you are saying, "I am willing to pay 5 million for this particular item." Basically saying, "I am more important then the several weeks/months you spent in your efforts, so give me gear." Or worse, you bought the gil online with real money, which makes you even lower than the stuff my dogs release daily. In either case, get over yourself, discover that you are NOT the center of the universe and find an end-game linkshell that will take the time to work with you and not for you.

That statement is a little extreme to be saying your tone is relaxed. If the guy wants to attempt to buy a RDL for 5 mil, let him... Like so many others have said, GL finding it for that price, but to each their own. Perhaps he crafts, farms like crazy... you don't know. It's his gil, let him do with it as he wishes.

Didn't read through most of this since it was like reply #1 <insert random insult>, reply #2 <insert random insult>, reply #3 etc.etc. So if I missed this being mentioned before, I apologize. I'm not sure how you wanted to do this, Darkraziel. You write you don't want to invest the time in joining an endgame shell, but bidding 5mil for Ridill won't just make it pop up in your inventory EVEN if someone sold for 5mil.

-You will STILL have to sit in Aery for possibly 3 hours straight a DAY (unless you give them your ID and PW, which would be lol tho)
-You have to hope that the LS that is selling to you claims
-You have to hope for a drop
-You have to hope that they in the end really agree on the 5mil trade

Just thought I'd list all the requirements that need to be met. At any rate, GL with it and don't expect it to be easy even if you "just" buy it. Prolly easier to just join a LS.

Is Ridill really all that desirable for a THF? I mean apart from the fact that it IS a really nice weapon.

(Incidentally i'm mostly just speculating and throwing ideas out, noflameplzkthx ^^)

My THF is 75, but I havn't used it for endgame purposes a great deal. But on HNMs/Difficult mobs, i imagine a THF WS without SA/TA is kinda worthless, and a well geared THF should be able to get 100tp every 30secs without a ridill? I'd also guess that in a protracted fight you're not gonna be holding onto your TP a great deal, you'd wanna fire off those WS every 30secs on the dot. Added to that the DEdge TP mod adds accuracy, and Shark Bite seems rather lol without SA and the TP mod for dmg isn't that high(?). This leads me to believe that any amount of TP over 100 you have, every 30secs isn't gonna be a great deal of use. Thus the fast TP gain of a Ridill doesn't seem effective, and as THF the DoT will be fairly unimpressive? I mean compared to sticking with daggers.

(Good god, THF's Sword skill is D?! I hadn't actually checked until now O.o)

From a meritting/general purposes perspective since the OP says he doesn't really have much time to dedicate to FFXI; Birds are fairly evasive, as are mamool ja (to take 2 common examples). With such a low sword skill, even a Suppo + merits is going to leave a fairly significant deficit with connecting/doing damage. Any other Sword-Skill-specific gear is going to mean sacrificing Haste or Accuracy gear?

Just thought also, with Ridill offhand hits will no longer exploit a bird's piercing weakness either, which means those many crits that a THF can proc won't be nearly as high? (I don't know about anyone else, but on my THF those numerous crits on regular melee attacks would account for a lot of my overall DoT.) Again this is obviously speaking from a strictly bird-merit viewpoint, but god knows we all spend enough time there.

The only offsets i can see in favour of the Ridill are higher base dmg & the frequency of the multiple swings? (And peen, lol)

That really only leaves farming and general messing around in zone, or things like Campaign and BC/Mission fights.

Any thoughts? I wrote a lot but it could all be crap if i'm uninformed ^^;

*bows*

And on a side subject:

GA WAR > Ridill WAR imo^^ Any specialisations you give your WAR to dual wield with a sword are effectively negated by replacing those specs with 2h GA oriented ones. With enough haste & a well geared WAR's nice dollop of Double Attack, GA DoT AND WS damage is rather beautiful.

Someday, I may also need a Ridill for my THF
you should watch what you flame on ppl about if you say the same ***FAIL!

Excellent catch! You are right, I don't need one, but it would be really fun for my THF- can't deny that!
However, I honestly believe in the ability of a THF to be a decent DD.
Seriously...

Stop laughing...

*smile* Ok, I'll admit THF isn't the best DD from the list of choices we have, but I will always have a special place in my heart for them. I know the pain of looking for a party for hours and sometimes days, before the Level Sync update.

However, I in regards to all of the statements said here, I am still not angry or upset. I remain my relaxed self, eating my morning Banana-Nut bread and drinking my delicious smoothie from Jamba Juice. My opnions are that, my own. My view is that, my own. Those of you that may think, "NooB" or "Yotevol = fail" have failed to enjoy the game. I mean REALLY enjoy it.

Some people tell me that "everything has a price". I'm sure they believe that.

I'd like to believe that there are some people that can't be bought. I'm actually earning my teaching credentials as we speak. It's not a lot of money and I probably won't get a lot of recognition for my efforts. However, instead of taking my degree to a lucrative company and making a 6-figure income, I choose to do something that I love- teach and help others.

I would like to believe I can not be "bought". Persuaded, maybe. We'll see though.

Beyond anything said here, enjoy the game and be sure to make a lot of friends.
We aren't remembered by what we have, but by what we leave behind.

I'm guessing the reason why 5mil is a lolamount is because you'd be paying everyone in the HNM shell for getting you it and 5mil between 18 ppl = sumthing like 300k per person?

To get it for 5mil you'd probably have to find a shell that camps the NM regularly and that has no-one in it that needs the item you're buying...

I'm terribly sorry. I can't count the amount of times I asked if ANYONE in my level range wanted to party, so I could go with them.

It's very frustrating when you constantly see people /sh in whitegate saying:
/sh NEW SEA LINKSHELL, ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM: DRK, THF, etc...

Why do they want a THF?
For Treasure Hunter of course, along with feint and all the hate control (i.e. SA, TA and Collaberator/Accomplice).

Ah, but therein lies the problem.
Every end-game linkshell wants a THF, but almost no one wants to party with them.

Those poor, unloved THFs. I'm suprised that DRKs are considered emo. At least they can DD...

You're denying that it's one of the most rare GROUND KING drops?

I am denying it is one of the most rare ground king drops. It drops over 10% of the time and in my opinion that is not that rare. Also if they're selling Ridills it means they're maxed out on them. In no way is a Ridill worth 1/3rd or even 1/4th of a relic. The price is extremely inflated.

Supply and Demand doesn't apply to R/Ex item drops. You can keep pretending it does though.

Edit: The THF DD thing was a joke. A well-geared THF can do great damage.

What exactly from any ground king drops less than ridill, aside from D-ring with its horrendous drop rates then? Ansewer me this and you may be correct, The only thing with a lower drop % is infact Dring, until proven otherwise, this would classify it as one of the most rare ground king drops.

Body abjs? They drop from their respective HQ mobs at much higher percentages. Quite simply, you are wrong but refuse to admit it.

IMO 10% is very far off from the actual drop %, i've killed many many fafnirs and only seen a handful.

#2. Supply and demand applies to anything and everything at all.

You can claim that it doesn't but when ls's don't know what to do with all of a certain item it becomes valueless, many ls's end up giving away ***like hrottti or aegisjalmr.

For instance, If you had a ridill drop each fafnir it wouldn't be worth *** after long (same deal as thiefs knife though you can AH that). You can pretend that very basic economics don't apply to it, but anyone with a half a brain would just join up some ls for a few events get drop and not pay for it, making it valueless.

The inflated price of it that you noted only proves this point, when only say one LS on a server is capable of selling this drop and not screwing over a member who wants one, one ls may be maxed out on it, perhaps only one ls even claims fafnir.. they control supply, in other words they monopolize, and demand is high enough people will pay exorbitant prices.

Yah, you can claim that supply and demand doesn't apply to a video games ra/ex drops, but in any economy ever S&D is the major factor. Go back to school.

Well now, this sounds like a contructive critique.
Revisiting the original post, I can understand the misunderstanding.
My apology to the original poster on that.

I guess my reading [GM] Dave blogs has caused a bit of his sarcasm to influence my post.
Good luck with your Ridill, but I am more than sure that finding an end-game LS that works with your time schedule would probably be profoundly easier than attempting to purchase the item.
