Yeah, it's due to an encoding glitch in the Javascript. Spaces do not naturally have good encoding standards on the internet. Some browsers internally encode them as _, and some as +. We elected to support the _, as it's more common, but that means when the quote goes through the Javascript and back out, the browsers replace the + with a space. Not much we can do about it without a ton of work.

a bit more typing but meh, not too big of a deal.
Simple fix: replace the + with an + during post submission. I'm sure there are scads of other scans and/or replacements that happen at that time, or during the HTML generation for output into which this could be incorporated. Wherever you're translating the BBcodes into HTML you're already going to be running a metric ton of preg_replace() where this could be put in.
Hell, put this into the Javascript to offload all those extra processor cycles to whoever is quoting the post. Should save dozens of Hz worth every day. :U
