Can You Play FFXI From Korea?

I'd like to see you play in Antarctica!

I'm in korea now, and I'm not able to get past the "Checking your playonline viewer version for updates" thing. Not sure if anything has changed in these past few years for korea, or if it's just some local thing. But it's going to really suck if I have to take a 2 year break ...

A dude in my ls which occationally plays live in korea, and he seems to manage to log on just fine.
Not sure if he has to use some sort of proxy, but I suppose you could try to send him a PM.

Who's your ISP? If it's KT then you might be in for some serious pain.

I had lots of issues connecting to POL from KT megapass, ended up having to use a VPN service to play. KT provides the backbone connections to most of the PC bongs in SK, those PC bongs are typically infested with botware. When there were RMT attempting to DDoS SE's servers they were using the the infected PC's in SK. SE's network security shop decided it would be a good idea to block pretty much the entire KT IP range, which included the home users as well. The FFXI servers themselves are not blocked but the POL login / update servers are.

My suggestion is to try to a VPN service and see if that works. If it does then seek to change your ISP to LG powercomm or SK (who I use).

Ohh and Soju and sumgyupsal is freaking epic, especially with ladies to share it with.

I'm in Korea and playing now. I can only play with a VPN. =(

Idk if in Korea some laws that not allows to play MMO , if not - play at will :)

I'm stationed in South Korea right now, and I play everyday. If you are having problems connecting, just get a proxy and run through that. When I started using a proxy, I was able to connect no problem.

For those having connection issues, it's your ISP. I had big issues until I switched to SK. Right now I'm playing FFXI via SK internet.
