What's scary is after giving black people the same benefits as every other civilian in the US, a lot of them still resort to talking like that. Then blame it on everyone else suppressing them. Yeah, nature is scary.

Accents and slang develop from where you're raised. It has nothing to do with your race.

Everyone knows that.

There's a time and place to practice your "accent and slang" and there's a time and place where you speak normally in a professional society.

If you're never taught how to 'speak proper English' then you can't. A 'ghetto' accent is no different than an English (British, etc) accent.

Now there are some that choose not to, that I can assure you. I have people that claim I 'talk white' when I simply was raised in a catholic school where everyone would speak 'properly.'

You stated it clearly, there are some that choose not to. It's not in any way related to the accent or slang they were brought up on after you reach a certain age. They know it's wrong. We know it's wrong. They choose to continue talking like that then ultimately blame it on others suppressing them.

We're talking about the "ghetto" method of speaking English. No, they do not teach it in any public or private school in the US. They are taught proper English. The people in subject are the ones that generally don't care and continue practicing it throughout their lives.

You're generalizing too much. A standard correlation you can make between people who speak like that are usually unhappy with their lives mid 20s and THEN blame it on other people not giving them the opportunity to succeed.

It's not like it's wrong anyway. It still gets the message across, more or less. Slang exists everywhere, even corporate workers talk in slang. Sure it might give a bad first impression, but as long as the said person can put out results, I'd still hire him/her.

There is a difference between slang and accent and dialect in my opinion.

Slang: street terminology/language designed to fool the police.

Accent: this applies to foreigners and it means proper english with native language inflection.

Dialect: Native english speaker that develop his communication given the social and territorial influences.

All these things depend on the social constructs in the area(in regards to both slang and accent), certain slangs are used in certain areas and act in accordance with the said accent.
Just because they can't speak your "proper english" doesn't make them wrong, it all just hinges upon how they were raised, how they learned the language, what that meant to them all that.
Ask 30 shrimpboat drivers if they feel like they need to fully enunciate every damn word they say? It has nothing to do with them being "unhappy" or anything.
I grew up in the midwest, I speak to people who speak in the same accent, therefore I have a midwestern accent. If i lived in Tennessee with the hilljacks I would have a slight southern accent. In terms of slang, I agree with you, it's a choice, is it a wrong choice?

The english language is a PROGRESSIVE language, meaning half the ***in the english language either was a slang term at one point and time or was completely made up.

Yeah, I've interviewed countless people who revert back but in the work place and/or around me, they do their best to be "normal".

I would have to disagree in terms of being wrong or right. I believe it's wrong in a corporate environment. It makes others uncomfortable and that's not something we put up with, whether or not they're able to produce satisfactory results.

@Dk, as I said before, they may be "brought up" around that environment but a child spends 7-8 hours in school everyday for at least 12 years of their lives. And they are -not- taught to speak like that.

7-8 hours in school as opposed to the 16 hours(factoring out the sleep its going to be 8+, probably more on the lines of 10)because they spend with their "ghetto" families.
