Mine screwed up after the POL version update, after rebooting and loading FFXI again, it loaded properly.

And after the game update, it smoothly went straight into it.

Hmm.. Maybe your disc needs a good cleaning, or replacing? Or could be just terrible lag?

I haven't experianced any problems with mine, but then again I was only on mine for about 15 minutes before I went to bed.
