So I am kinda curious... with the release of single tierV buff spells, will merits cross over when you cast a single tier? My WHM has capped shellraV merits, and it would suck if those merits didn't carry over when casting shellV.

I have not found anything addressed about this from SE, so maybe it's just something that they have not considered yet. I can't really imagine it's something you can test either, so I was wondering if anyone has had these same thoughts, or heard anything about this.

Based off of what I see on wiki, the single targets act as if you have full merits in the -ra.
Wiki.Protectra.V said:
Increases Defense by 60 points.

Each additional Merit upgrade increases the defense granted by 2.
Wiki.Protect.V said:
Enhances targets defense by roughly 70 points.

No discussion on the wiki and no further confirmation that I can find.

so would (accession + protect V) be the better choice?

I'm no WHM but I'd say if you're getting the same values, go with the AoE /sch ability and toss those merits into regen or something else cool.
Then proceed to AoE Regen III your party later just for fun. ^^

Protect and Shell V are category 2 merits, Regen potency is in category 1...

And if this is true... then essentially protectra/shellra V merits are essentially useless if you use accession because it gives you capped merits for both spells.

Nooooo! The sadness ;;
Glad I put that "I'm no whm" part... anyway
That is pretty much the case, haha. Hence my reasoning for tossing those merits and cappin' out that Devotion/Martyr. (I looked at merits this time lol >>;)
Edit: That is, only if single target Pro/Shell give the same effect.

yea, single tier buff spells act like you have capped merits... so all you need is accession. /sadface they made my merits useless!

Your merits also enhance the basic spells further then the single target spells do.

Currently, my WHM merits are 1-Prora5, 4-Devotion, 5-Shellra5

With this update I'm removing Pro5 and capping Devo and leaving Shellra5 since it will never be beaten by a single target.

It would be better unless you had capped protectra5 merits, and even then it would be the same effect as accession protect5.

Still might be a good idea to at least have 1 merit in each ProraV/ShellraV just in-case of that rare time when you're not /sch.

Idk I think I'm going to keep my merits on WHM -- Beats paying 100+ per spell.

It depends on what you call "better", personally I'm not a fan of blowing 168MP (84MP more than the Merited Proectra V) on something I can get for 84MP.

Similarly with Shellra V, 93MP for the merited version and ~186MP for the Accession > Shell V version.

EDIT: Made a mistake in those numbers, forgot it was only the Recast which was tripled and not both Recast/Cost.

Im not changing my merits on WHM, I slogged my back side off to fully merit that job. SE can jog on if they think their update will make that change!

As for the spells costing 100K+, just wait a while I'm sure they will drop at some point when people want a quick sale, same with all new things really. Start off expensive and then become reasonable after a month or so.
