well it could always be RR in hopes that someone uses the two hour for damage instead of just to warp home.

I'm pretty sure most of you are off.

NIN and SAM skills and equipment in FF11 tend to be unique words invented by putting various kanji together, proper names, or other obscure historical terms you won't find in a dictionary. Being distinctly JP jobs, they also rarely (if ever?) use mythological references from outside Japan.

If someone can find the JP client version of the spell I could tell you what it means in a heartbeat, but once the word has been romanized, it's nearly impossible to tell.

(Edit: it appears to be 哀車. The latter character does mean "car" but more generally refers to any kind of wheel or ring. For instance, Tachi: Kasha uses the same "sha" character to mean "wheel of flowers." The other character here means pity, woe, grief, sorrow, etc. Sounds like a debuff or offensive spell to me, but there's no way to really know. SE loves to be metaphorical sometimes.)

(Follow-up: the tool used is 草子、 which is a somewhat archaic term for any written work, usually something bound.)
way to burst my bubble...I thought nin was actually going to be useful for a sec..

LS friend says she's not sure on the commonly accepted one, but she said it has something to do with Provoke/Flash, Enmity down, or Reraise.

Didn't SE say at Vanafest that Nin would be getting it's own spike hate similar to Provoke?

Though, what threw her off was the Soshi. The tool used for the spell. She said it roughly translated to ancient scroll or book. I dunno, I'm pretty skeptical, too.

This is from dat mine thread ~ looks like a scroll when casted.

A group i was talking to said the '哀車' do mean 'sad' and 'car' but SE put them together to form the words 'False Life' and that の means 'the way of' so in litteral translation 'The way of false life' Jutsu: Ichi

and that 'Soshi' is calligraphy or also translated by japanese dictionary 'work of art' or 'written book'

Best day to decipher this is to take existing NIN spells and their respective tools... break 'em down and see how they add up, then apply the same method to the new proposed spell.

Who knows it might work.

Frankly I'm too lazy to put that kinda effort into it.

It almost certainly has nothing to do with life or rebirth. And the characters in the JP side of the client most definitely do not mean "lively." I'm not sure where anyone is getting that meaning, unless from some tortured attempt to graft Buddhist reincarnation into it from the metaphorical "wheel of suffering" aspect.

I will point out that the Japanese wikipedia entry for "ninja" mentions aisha (哀車の術), with the terse definition "to invite the pity of others," a conversational trick designed (ostensibly) to lure the soft-hearted into dropping their guard.

Maybe it's a buff that raises the attack of elemental weapon skills. I say this because Nins new WS looks to be a water-effect. maybe it will buff elemental dmg.

Aisha roughly translates to 'lively.' Which may insinuate a Flash/Voke of some sort.

Seems like this fits with what they were saying at Vanafest 2010.

We plan on adding a way for ninjas-in cooperation with their party members-to create a dramatic spike in enmity. Also in the works is an interface tweak to indicate one's remaining shadows via the Utsusemi icon.

Maybe like a debuff on the enemy that reduces enmity gained by other pt members?

So possible enmity spell then? Would be nice to see that for NINs.
