These Are a great source of income for any beginner. copper ore sells at the guilds for about 9gil on good days. take 48 ores and a stack of fire crystals. you can make a stack of ingots for less than 1k. can also by the ore from the airship docks if you have a pass think its about 15gil
but if a stack sells for 5k and it cost you 1k to make ding 400% profit.
the best bit is they can be made even with a goldsmithing skill of 0!!!
If people buy off ah it's cause they usually don't have the 30+ minutes it takes to actually make a couple stacks :o Also, for some synths it's a profit even with buying it from ah, so why waste time? Good profit synth for lowbies for sure ^^

They sell for so much because usually high level GoldSmithers don't want to take the time to make the ingots themselves, so they just buy the ingots off AH.
That being said, its then down to Supply and Demand.
For those curious, the reason these are now going for 30k a stack (and will likely stay that way) is that they're used to make minnows, of which any fisherman working on hakuryu will burn through about 30 a day.
Crafting 3 dozen minnows is obnoxious enough as it is; many if not most fishermen (especially those with multiple ebisus across different accounts) will gladly pay for the convenience of not having to craft the ingots, as well.
This is probably going to be the single best method for new players to make money until SE nerfs hakuryu. Granted, nobody in that position is going to find this comment, but tell your newbie friends.
I agree with Hitetsu. Easy money selling these, I get about 5k a stack. In the smithing and goldsmithing stores, copper ores only cost 9gil at the moment so big profit is avaliable.
