misssions are a joke now to breeze through just need a group for adoulin missions and that's it. The game has fantastic story line just a shame to many people do not bother with it

As much as I tried to pay attention to the story line myself, I found myself mashing the enter key to speed up cut scenes. This was not because I didn't want to read them, but because of time constraints (i.e. real life stuff coming up, or trying to catch ingame LS events, etc).

I doubt the game would go full on f2p, but at least they could offer a legacy membership discount like I get on WoWXIV. That would still be 120 bucks a year for a toon, it would laughable to say that the developers are offering 120 bucks worth of new content a year right now let alone the 170 bucks it costs to sub for a year right now. Most players want more than rehashed battle content with recycled armor skins with only better stats. The game simply isn't worth what we're paying to play it right now.

Assault missions and Campaign have much of a story behind them?

I did a search on this site for his requirements which does not count Abyssea main story or Adoulin and only looked at active accounts. It turned 261 names out of 127,203 possible results which is 0.21%.

I assumed there could be people missing 1 or both of the other 2 requirements, so guesstimated that could knock it down another 0.1%.

That includes everyone with auto-generated accounts (that consequently have no mission progress).

Fair enough. Out of all the people tracked in this site that are listed as active, only 261 would quality for the mega quest.

I get 752 with those search criteria (minus Adoulin because it's not on AH yet). If you drop the mini expansions, the number grows a lot.

The number also triples if you remove campaign and assault.

I agree with all of this. If not a full F2P, then at least reduce the price for a monthly subscription. Like a $12.95 to $9.95 reduction or something along those lines. I for one am tired of the rehashed content and SE constantly making new weapons/armor almost every update which render equipment I just got or worked hard to get almost obsolete. Plus, IMO, the current content SE has been releasing just doesn't interest me. Unless they add some new expansion (would love to explore a new continent) and maybe some new jobs (*cough Mime and Gladiator cough*) then I'm not handing anymore of my cash to SE.

FFXI has dwindling numbers and is mainly making a profit off of XI because people will pay a bunch of money to dual box. Why would they reduce the sub fees?

Right, well, on servers where you can't get a group to save your life because everyone has their ls, you're effectively locked out of content. Everyone's done it with their group, doesn't care to repeat.

I got all the way up to the last three adoulin missions before I left, but you know what? Everyone had already done them, so sorry, try soloing - except it isn't solo friendly yet.

So SE gets to keep their gated content system, and I use my $20 a month on something else.

The way the site reads some missions is kinda funky anyway, so you can't use that as a real criterion. My profile states I'm at First Lieutenant, while my Achievements round up has me at 50% complete on Assaults, but I have a Mythic completed and one in the works, meaning I obviously have to have Captain.

Not really important, but food for thought on the whole site search thing.

Wings of the Goddess happened "20 years ago". The clock in FFXI runs at about 25x real time. That means 20 years ago in-game is less than one year real time.

The best part is when a bard casts an AoE spell. The effects on everybody happen at the same moment, which completely chokes the PS2. (Protectra/Shellra do each player in sequence.)

I got Captain a long time ago and it still shows me as First Lieutenant. Is that one of the things that only shows up if you use Guildwork?

Anyhow, my speculah:
* server merges
* new expansion
* new expansion will not be available for PS2, even in Japan
* they will NOT immediately close down the PS2 service, but will try to wait out the die-hards in Japan (good luck with that)
* no F2P, not even a cash shop

It shows First Lieutenant on GW too.

Looks like a bug in the LSC page. That only shows FL for me, and I've finished everything for mythic except the alex.

Don't you lose the assault rank when you complete a mythic? (Perhaps so you can start over the cycle should you try to make another mythic?)

Nope. First of all, I haven't completed a mythic, I still have a lot of alex left to go. Second of all, I still get 4+1 tags and free runic teleports.

Assault rank, unlike Campaign medals, is not something that can be lost at all. NOTHING exists to demote you; and as for mythic weapons, you just go back to the 'collection' phase when you turn in a second weapon. So while you DO have to redo all your assaults, you only have to do them once with the logs for this weapon instead of 2 times (once for Captain to start, and once with logs.)

Haha, I still need to get my last medal back b/c I changed allegiances.

Additionally: SE dragged their feet on displaying 'Captain' rank for so long (hell, I still think my lscom profile says FL...) that in order to register 'Captain' title on FFXIAH, you need to put the title on and either have LSCOM read the title or use the Guildwork plugin. I can't remember which was the right way, but I think it was Guildwork.

If I remove Assault since it seems like a train wreck, the search returns 521. Almost twice as many people.

Removing Medal and the mini episodes, it becomes, 1050. Maybe that would be a better requirement?
