Maybe they're announcing bringing the ls community site out of beta

Whatever it is expect to be disappointed !
Someone on the OFs mentioned Masters of the Mask could also be a reference to FFII where you had to get a Black Mask and White Mask to obtain the Crystal Rod to enter Mysidia Tower to get the Ultima spell. It'd be kinda cool to see FFXI get a form of the Ultima spell but, again, I doubt this is what it will be. Referencing early FF games is more XIV's thing and neither the Ultima spell nor Ultima Weapon would work right in XIV.
Jog my memory, has XI ever built content around old FF references? I don't remember. I don't remember any references to white masks. But they again I can barely read...
So is this tonight? Im slightly confused. And im guessing its not worth staying up for unless your fluent in JP? I can just wake up and read the forums the morning after? Haha
Unless you're adept in Japanese indeed I would recommend not to lose any sleep over this and just read the findings in the morning.

I'm hoping for FFXI-2 >_>
Takes place 20-100 years later. If you played FFXI your character will be either a descendent or your character reincarnated. The lead up to it and the end of FFXI could be an expansion or add-on where the goddess finally comes to you and tells you your work in this era is done and it's time for you to move on till you are needed again. The missions will involve everyone you helped in previous expansions and prepare them for a world w/o the Blessing of Light leading up to a final CS where you enter Atomos and are erased from every ones memories. The world at peace for the time being and instead of you being remembered all they can remember is a light of the goddess. Flash forward 100 years. The next Shadowlord is created, the Mithra queen or w/e has come to reclaim the mithra they split off to join Windurst, The Orcs have launched a major offensive from their continent against San'doria, and Bastok has exhausted its resources and is becoming a wasteland. The Light of the Goddess is needed once again. I can dream right? PS2 support cessation, new expansion, server merge, any or all of the above, as long as me still getting a Relic at this point is even semi worth it, I'll be happy.
That said, I am personally hoping it's a little bit of all three. Merge a few servers so you have 900-1200 on in peak times, not the 700-900 I've seen on Shiva at least, to open up more opportunities and have less runs organized by shouts end up busting. Even if it's not a full blown expansion, if they were to just do some kinda new add-on set, that'd be cool. I think the game still has potential to grow and explore things, much how it's been speculated that Masters of the Mask will take us south, but I'm sure SE could also just as easily come up with some out of the box way for content to be rebooted or revisited in a high-level content setting or environment (a la High-Level Mission Battlefields) that would make the game still worth playing; did somebody say new WotG missions based on important battles in the war, or ***, even pulling a Blizzard and introducing a head-start option giving players access to jobs at higher levels when creating a new character (eg. you can create a character using any job available in-game but you can only start at level xx on that job) PS2 support needs to end though, not even from a capabilities standpoint, but from a "even Sony has dropped PS2 support and you're telling me you can't?" perspective. I think the last numbers from the Vana'diel populace survey thing showed like a very very tiny miniscule amount of players actually play on PS2, and considering SoA was only released on PS2 in Japan, it's obviously safe to say that the majority of PS2 players live there. The problem is that Japan has cafes set up with PS2s so people can play FFXI, that's what it is. If they shut off PS2 support, they lose those players. And the cafes aren't just in Japan, they're all across Asia, and most of them use PS2s as well. That would suck for the population of the game, but it would be for the better of it in the long run with the capabilities and possibilities it would open up. It's a risky move, but if they played it right, and were able to remarket the game after it happened to try to draw in a new crowd -- I only ever recall seeing a commercial for the game twice on television -- they really could revive this game and continue to let it be their most profitable, if they invested the right money into it. *stares off at FFXIV from a distance* Just my two pence. Awww yes FFXI SOCCER!!

Oh you also jump!" Shiva.Spathaian said: » I'm a little more amused because this sounds almost exactly like what happened with ARR for ffxiv, except a less dramatic ending for the original. I tried to fit it in with the lore of FFXI. We kinda kicked Bahamuts *** in XI unlike the wimpy FFXIV 1.0 players. And yea ... it's kinda like that. I just want a graphics update though none of the whole changing everything deal. Would also be nice to see where all the work we did goes. I mean you talk to any NPC in Bastok it's still like the beginning of the damn game over 10 years ago in our time but it's been like hundreds of years there. Here's the thing, everyone wants FFXI to go on, and I understand their reasons for it and even in my own heart I want it to go on in that way. But at the same time... It's a Final Fantasy game and while 14 could be considered an exception... Most "sequels" have been crap. I want the game to end, not in the sense of "oh it's dying and terrible just put it out of its misery" but in the sense of I want it to still be what it is, and not to be forced into another Realm Reborn scenario. Part of my reason for that is I don't wanna see that story-type reused again and the other reason is I don't want another sequel tragedy... I'd rather they end it right after the point where everyone is prepared to live without Altana's light and forgetting us or even just adventurers fading into obscurity, because that is how I've always imagined the game ending, with peace for once. ![]() *cracks knuckles* Here we go again... A skateboarding Goobue sign me up !
I'll die from laughter if they introduce a legit jump mechanic just cause they can ! What if that was ALL it was? "We're dropping PS2 and implementing a jump feature."

They got a long way to go before peace lol. I get what you are saying though even though I don't want it to happen myself. So I typed out stuff for this and then was like ... I'm gonna go to sleep before I actually send anymore stupid stuff. Zzz.... |
