This is one problem with breaking up the state. However, I think this benefits West California quite a bit. There's pros and cons to this. I guess we'll see what voters have to say in 2016.

From what I've read recently, the idea of dicing up CA isn't really new, right? I put that on the same tier as the idea of Texas secession and all the hub-bub over CO divvying up.

Yeah it's been thrown around the CA political table for a while now. The Bay area, Silicon Valley and the Los Angeles area stand to gain the most, whereas other parts of the state stand to suffer quite a bit.

There has always been talk of splitting into 2 states but the 6 way split that is being proposed won't get through the house and senate due to how it creates imbalance in the electoral vote in the form of 12 Senators from the region instead of 2.

I think if they can address the potential electoral vote imbalance this might be a good idea. They need to spit out some figures on how it would impact county and state programs to the particular state.
