you have to add them in the home screen, but accessing the FC menu doesnt break AC (dont have to close/exit it) unless you are online AC.
also, there is a Best Friend list, which is nifty, cause you can send them mail and other perks i think? (ingame)

i sell the fossils, its quick bells this early in the game
I sell everything until I have my house built all the way.
