Well, in this case, we know they have the mobile version in the works, so it does seem logical that having that ramping up for launch is likely. Holding a fanfest is likely a good way to get some attention for it.
What I'd suspect more on the PC side is maybe seeing them start on giving the game a facelift. Figure, they may have updated assets made for the mobile version they could drop in. Maybe work on doing HD type textures as we've been seeing as mods. Considering the progress we've seen people making all on their own, seeing SE update the entire game like that over the course of a year doesn't seem unreasonable.
It'd be nice to see them actually update the core game engine and the like, but it seems unlikely. Still, I'd put that stuff before a full expansion.

They're going to announce that Tanaka is coming back to FFXI.
First thing he does is delete all i119 gear, take away everyone's afterglow, and make a new trial that requires 4,500 Riftcinders, 65,000 Alexandrites, 8,000 Swart Astral Detritus, and clearing every ZNM in the game.
If you fail to complete this quest, which resets and must be repeated every conquest cycle, all your job points will be reset to zero.
Also, weaponskills can no long crit, and magic attacks are capped at 999 damage.

Inventory loading times are already bad enough, can't go encouraging more hoarding. Maybe if choosing what loads/doesn't load was an option. Like you can choose to only have items load that you could currently wear... idk.

idk about everyone else, but aside from the typical zoning lag, My inv/storage never lags lol

I actually would like to see real short time events. Not just campaigns to do the same thing over and over. Maybe 1-2 week events to get special armor that is actually useful. Not more cosmetic junk. And have the events on a cycle.
