Just checking in. How's FFXI been treating everyone? Paladin ruling the world?

Everyone and their mother have 99 Burtgang/Excal/Aegis/Ochain/Ragnorak with Afterglow?

I finished law school in May, passed the California bar exam (first time!), and started my new job in Orange County.

Loving it so far, but still making Cali my home.

Think about coming back on occasion, but super busy and I'd be the noobiest of noobs now sadly.

Nice! Fellow PLD living in the Long Beach area here. PLDs are still PLDs. They added a new ring for finishing seekers but meh. Nothing that big of a change in the last year honestly.

As negative as putting it so bluntly it's pretty true. I still get some enjoyment out of it, so it may be worth coming back for a month or two and test the waters. PLD shouldn't have any problems getting caught up with any gear you'd need either.

Afterglows are still very rare but I have seen a couple afterglow mythics. ZNM update made them more commonplace by far than relic or emp afterglows. I don't know if you were serious in asking that or not but figured I would give you an answer. The game is in easy mode but not in THAT much easy mode where its something you see often. There are many more normal mythics thanks to salvage hacking but other than that it seems pretty similar to when you quit which seems to be just over a year ago.

Also to answer your question PLD is still best tank by a good margin, pretty much required to have ochain/aegis though. It is used for High-tier mission fights, and delve 2. Other than those events its not being used really.

I wasn't really looking for a "convince me to come back" debate.

I'm too busy in life now and honestly it feels like a decade has passed since I've played.

Just have a lot of fond memories and checking up on people and the state of the game.

Not sure I'll ever get that involved in an MMORPG again, so lots of nostalgia.

Paladin is in a pretty great place as far as tanking, mega tanking, and low man bcnm fights. Also with the gear that's out now can put on a ragnarok and swing away. Just something I like to do when I can.

Depends on the people you hang out with and the things you do from just looking in this thread. Personally, in our group we don't bring PLD to anything but Divine Might II.

linkshell community falsely reported a lot of weapons as 99, or xiah's way of interpreting it did

there are not 1372 99 ochains, maybe 100 tops

source: it lists me as 99 ochain through ls community, never took it past 90

We have scrub DDs so we stick to D, but if member1 finally makes a Koga and member2 finally figures out why they trail so far behind me we'd do VD with the setup we use currently, which is WHM, SMN, THF, SAMx3 with outside buffs (thus "depends on the people you hang out with").

Lakshmi is only as dead as you want it to be... Have you tried making friends or starting shout groups?

PLD is fun to play compared to other jobs. I wouldn't find the content boring if someone came back now but the direction and content since Adoulin came out just seems too much for one person to tackle. The thing that got me pissed was people hacking to get more alexandrites which created an influx of that currency in which SE just slapped them on their wrists. The banning polices as of now are very toned down as compared 10 years ago.

Ya, I narrowly missed the original salvage bans years ago (3 day ban, since my group found out about the dupe towards the end).

What happened with the newest salvage hack? Another dupe method?

From my browsing it did look like alexandrite was a lot more common.

Metal plates still scarce as hell?

Not sure how many people were banned but yeah some were making 40m a day with salvage hack (last boss). Metal plates are still there as some still shout for VW. Not as cheap as they once were but still there.

pos to any warp besides the last one you used, warp up, floor respawns as normal

so kill megaboss, warp to 5f portal, take it to 6f, warp to 6f portal, take it to 7f, kill megaboss (or something similar)

they patched megabosses to never repop, but they're too lazy to fix ramparts so china is still abusing it heavily on those(granted a good run is like 600 alex instead of 3000)
