Well since soloing can get a bit tedious and boring sometimes I like to spruce it up a bit with songs.
"Prayer of a Refugee" by Rise Against is my favorite to listen to since it basically sums up the thought of soloing lol.
Considering a blu can just sneeze on a imp and get limit points(sneezes in the form of disseverments^^)
When I am just sitting in WG waiting for a decent shout Coheed and Cambria's "Feathers" does the trick.

When I'm farming, doing my own thing, lately I've been listening to Royksopp - Melody A.M. Very chill music (you've prolly heard their song in the Geico Commercial at the airport).

I used to listen to folk- and viking-metal mainly while partying, such as Eluveitie, Ensiferum or Amon Amarth. When it came to bigger battles tho, I switched to my favorite band Children Of Bodom for the ultimate adrenalin kick~

I find the game music usually suffices, some of the soundtracks are really fantastic and suit the zones. The Garden of Ru'Hmet is awesome! When I'm fishing or crafting though I usually listen to a Mars Volta album. Need some fast paced music to stop yourself falling asleep!
PS. Radiohead is good too, pity In Rainbows didn't live up to my expectations.

If I did listen to music while playing I definitely would play some disturbed-down with the sickness, marilyn manson ( a few songs), heavy & alternative, slipknot, some 70's,80's, 90's, and lots of random music.
Most of the time i stick with in-game bgm. Dynamis really the only time i strap on the ipod.

Mostly listening to game music or game music remixes when playing FF XI. Sh'mup OSTs, like CAVE ones (DoDonPachi, ESPGaluda, Deathsmiles, Mushihime etc...). Others sh'mup like Psyvariar 2, Gradius... Not to mention the shitload of touhou remixes :D

Considering the slow pace of the game, I always have the loudest, heaviest metal you can imagine playing- Opeth, Slayer, Cradle of Filth etc. Of course, I'm drunk most of the time I play, so I'm that much more into general noise =P
