According from my experience and from some peoples testing it out from the wiki here is the data on mana wall:

*The effect of Mana Wall appears to be 100% damage transfer to MP.
**Reduces damage taken by 50%. (100 Damage taken takes 50 mp away instead of 100 hp)
*** All forms of damage modifiers (PDT, Phalanx, Stoneskin, ect) are taken into account before mana wall effect's takes away mp.
*Because no HP damage is taken, this ability effectively prevents spell interruption from damage.
*If you get reduced to 0 mp because of damage taken from Mana Wall, Mana Wall wears off immediately.
*Damage will carry over to HP when MP is low enough.
*Mana Wall does not allow resting while you have a DOT on you even though you are not losing HP.
*While Mana Wall is active Sublimation's effect changes from -2 hp per tic to -1 mp per tic. (unconfirmed)
*Despite popular belief mana wall will NOT create an invincible like effect while manafont is active.

Keep in mind the unconfirmed status I put on some of these only becuase wiki had it too but i've used this skill many times and found all of these things to be true.

I say this skill is very powerful (more so then expected since 1hp = 0.5 mp). With this Black mages will live much more often without too much of a hindrance to there performance as well as have a new form of an anti interruption.

...but thats just what I think what is everyone elses opinion on this?

*edit added new data to the op.

If it's already a native physical damage -50%, then a BLM with -50% damage already would be taking 25%.

That's kinda spiffy.

No all manafont does is make mp cost = 0.... it doesn't make you have unlimited mp.

At least it's not like Damage > MP was in Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance. As long as you have 1 MP, the hit will be fully absorbed by that MP.

Maybe BLMs will survive Citadel Buster now. :p

If they do survive, they'll lose a lot of enmity...won't have much MP to do anything, but at least they won't be trying to nuke while weakened.

Hmmm heres the real question. When is this factored. Before or after or between what parts of dmg taken calc.

PDT, phalanx, stoneskin.

Where it fits on there can be pretty big on how to use it and such.

Like if it is at the end hell yeah I might just use it anytime things look like they might get hairy.

If it's before PDT just ewwww.

Phalanx ok who cares... if its anywhere between PDT and stoneskin still nice but a little less leary on using it then if at end

Sorry but im not familiar with the term PDT. What does that stand for?
At any rate yes SS will block before mana wall does. Not sure about phalanx never tested it.

I think Mana Wall is calculated before stoneskin. Today I was helping a friend with his magian trial and I was using both stoneskin and mana wall while resting. I got hit by the spider for 0 damage when it awoke, and it made me stand up. It did this repeatedly, so I'd say it has to ignore stoneskin.

What I want to test is if this works with DoT effects.

Wiki discussion has a dude saying poison II took 5 MP/tick from MP pool (confirming the 50% damage reduction), so yeah.

My experience thus far has been that PDT is factored in first. What damage I take in MP is looking to be 50% of what I take in -30% PDT gear.

My favorite thing about the JA is the interruption proofing. So very delicious.

Did your mp lower when you were hit? when mana wall is up you also take 0 damage in the chat log as well.

Im gonna guess that you still will not be able to rest and since Sublimation will still take hp to give you mp... but I will test it right now to see what happens.

Edit: Tested when sublimation is under the effect of mana wall -2 hp per tic becomes -1 mp per tic. This also means that a refresh piece will make it so you lose 0 mp while both sublimation and mana wall are in effect (also tested to be true).

In other words when mana wall is up sublimation's effect becomes this: Gradually creates a storage of MP while reducing your MP.

I think he meant does it stop sublimations dot on hp. If it does seems a bit weird to use. Lose 1 mp to store 2 lol

That's what I mean lol, it's like a perpetual death machine.

Also could potentially put a ton of HP gear on to store more MP.
