I played the first Disgaea, ported to PSP, I like it, it was insane.. 9999 levels..
In Phantom Brave there was an early level that contained a rabbit that leveled up every turn. If you made a character that blew up when you summoned it, you could let the rabbit max out, then throw something next to it and summon. Boom, rabbit dies (since its health didn't go any higher) and PL to your heart's content. Like 100 levels every time you did it. >.>;
Aren't Disgaea and Phantom Brave closely related? I mean, I think PB characters appear as secret characters in Disgaea 2 or 3 or something.
They're made by the same company, and are both similar in the sense that they're both strategy RPGs that aren't really for the casual gamer. I mean, ***, level 9999 dungeons and whatnot will make your eyes bleed.
Persona 1-4 (PS1 and PS2) ALL of them are AMAZING RPG's with excellent stories each one better than the last, honestly. Big fan of the Suikoden Series as well (4 was ok, 5 was....meh idk...but 1-3 were pretty spectacular). Disgea was mentioned, that series is great, i like all 3 of them. Star Ocean was also mentioned, a very good game (Clinpachi you got good taste man, that game rocks lol). Ok...REALLY CHEESY game...but omfg so fun to play and very addictive.. Parappa the Rapper....(don't laugh if you have ever played that game for more than like 10m, you've no doubt had the songs stuck in your head lol)
spyro the dragon... idc what they say you took the role of a dragon hence rpg so yeah get it
Every game is an RPG!
THE GAME isn't.
dont listen to this person Spyro best Rpg everrrr made but on another note shin megami tensei nocturne very awsome game dark story and dante is in it XD
Can anyone remember the name of a PS2 game, it was an RPG type game where the world had ended and a new world was forming and you play as a half human half monster hybrid and you could recruit monsters to fight for you.
It has a Japanese sounding name and the front cover has the face of the main character with blueish lines running down his face like veins. I just can't think of the name, it was a brilliant game.

It's no a ps2 game, but when I read this I think of Too Human.
EDIT: (removed large box art)
EDIT 2: Actually the post above is probably right, didn't think about that series.

I think it falls more under action/adventure/puzzle though.. Still a great game, with good gameplay value and an engaging story.. There's others in the Legacy of Kain series as well, but I started with this one, and since you don't need to play the first one to understand what's going on in this one, I reccomend you start with this one (it's much better in story, gameplay and graphics.. if you decide you love the game that much then go back to the first if you wish to do so)
Also, not an RPG, but highly reccomended, Abe's Oddysee Part 1 and 2 (definately start with 1 on this series)
Oddly, I've never played a game from the Suikoden or Shin Megami Tensei series. They aren't video board games like FFT, and Disgaea, are they?
I can't speak for Suikoden or the other Shin Megami Tensei games but Nocturne is turn based random encounters and you can roam the world/cities/towns freely, plays similar to the Final Fantasy series.

Suikoden is pretty much just a classic RPG, Shin Megami Tensei differs from game to game, Persona's are half RPG half high school sim, Nocturne is more of an RPG. But the SMT games are fairly difficult, at least for me.
Edit: Not like difficult to the point of hating the game, but you are going to die and rethink your strategy in those games. To where other RPGs you can just waltz through.

I recently rediscovered my old 1st PS1 which I got on release for Xmas all those years ago... It doesn't work and when I switch it on it sounds almost like "KI..LL ME.." but that's beside the point.
I found most of my old favorites for the PS1:
Breath of Fire 3
Front Mission 3
Final Fantasy VII ~ IX
Parasite Eve 2
And I can't seem to get enough, rediscovering these oldies has made me want more. I'm currently using a PS1 emulator called EPSXE and I've found a web site where you can downloa... *ahem* purchase virtually any PS1 game.
I would appreciate any games anyone can recommend from the RPG, Action, Shooter type genre.
