Swinging this without aftermath is fine. You shouldn't pull hate off your avatar so long as you BP first before you start using this monster. Pretty safe too up to a level 3 aftermath also.
Trying to melee with this as smn will cause you to rip hate from your avatar, even without the aftermath.
If you want this for sch you'd probably be better off going for the Taiaha +1 as the aftermath only applies to melee attacks, the only difference would be the extra MP.
